Another beach - beautifull!
Today we went to Rottnest Island. The name came from a captain who discovered the island. Once landed he thought it was infested with big rats and named it "rat nest island". They aren't rats but "Quokka's", they look like mini kangaroo's!
We caught the bus round as it's quite big and we could hop on and off as much as liked. The beaches are all pituresque. We got off at Salmon point, took a really nice walk down and accros Salmon Bay, it was beautifull. The sea is different shades of blue's and green's.
Walked up to Wadjemip - the aborginal name for the Island - and jumped on the bus to Strickland Bay and Stark bay. This is where the ship "Mira Flores" sank in 1886 due to reefs. Walked round Geordie Bay and got to meet the Quokka's!
Got back to Thomson Bay and went to the Museum of History and Nature and the story of the Island being the aboriginal prison. Then became a popular holiday destination in the very early 1900's.
The walks and the beaches are a "must see"
