Boddington Farm
Uncle John and Jojo There is nothing like family, bagels and Wii to keep Kornies 5 happy. Perth is such an easy city to take it easy (I know we haven’t exactly been stressing ourselves). Spending time with Dana and Craig…her fiancé…yes we are proud to announce that Adam’s sis has found her soul mate in the hills of Perth. After shared meals, a visit to his home and life project (and lots of slightly rusted but character-filled Alfas) and endless rides with the boys at adventure world, Craig has passed the Kornies 5 test and we are very happy for them both.
John, Ilana, Kimberley and Thomas had us as house guests for 8 days …and their hospitality never ran out (much like the story of Chanukah and I think almost as miraculous given life with 5 extra guests!) We can’t leave out Jelly Bean and Toffee Apple, two beautiful doggies who were doted on by the boys, even Sam, who was able to overcome a fear of the four-legged friend to cuddle up daily with a pair of Rottweilers. My kids shared their affection around with Joe sneaking a cuddle with Kimmy, John and Ilana and the boys appreciative of Tom’s constant

Jojo and Ilana at Adventure World.... assistance with all things Wii.
We had a wonderful day trip with John and Thelma, Ilana’s mother, to her farm in Boddington. Kornies 5 enjoyed fruit picking, animal spotting and the highlight was definitely Kathy’s 1.7km an hour speed record on the quad motor bikes…Max lapped her about 17 times!
Kings Park, in central Perth served as a perfect destination for a day of playing, picnicking and frolicking with Dana Banana. Trigg Beach was stunning and the waves pounded my insatiable boys who caught wave after wave after wave. The only thing that got them out of the water was Dana and Craig’s arrival with a picnic lunch and the ruby red grapefruits were sensational. Friday night Shabbat dinner was lively, with The Same Contingent making us feel at home, but nothing could soften the blow of Hawthorn losing their first match against Geelong…not even jelly and Pavlova.
All was forgotten when the kids saw Adventure World in the distance for our final hurrah in Perth. Ilana, John Tom and friend as well as Craig and Dana joined us for another picnic and awesome rides on waterslides, go-karts and various carnival treats. Ilana pedaled Joe around the
The Pinnacles
Amazing rock formations mono-rail and second time round had Sam in front, pedaling on his own carriage, who ran out of steam and she had to nudge him home. Pedal power is the new Pilates! Big kids and little kids tried out all manner of water slides: The Tunnel of Terror; The Aquaplane (I did not appreciate the nasal enema) The Shot (I lost my voice on this one) and The Speed Slide (Max got a wedgy and Korny was glad he had his boardies on).
It was time to farewell Perth and continue north. Jurien Bay was the perfect place to unwind after the big smoke and explore The Pinnacles. These figures, sculpted by nature, give you a feeling of being on another planet. The ranger explained that the local Aboriginal people view each limestone pinnacle as a gravestone and as you are walking through them you feel as if each one (and there are thousands) has its own character and energy. Many seen to resemble a particular part of the human body…my boys pointed that out to me.
Fishing the next morning saw Max continue his squidding success as well as catching many fish with Sam and Adam. Unfortunately
for them they were under-sized and had to be thrown back in, but the resident sea lion had no complaints, catching the little fellas within a second of their return to sea. He must be the cleverest sea lion on the planet. His presence stops the big fish coming in. The fishermen have to throw the little ones back in and there he is waiting for a feast. Still we had a great time and the boys were chuffed with their temporary catch. The evening was spent in the camp kitchen, enjoying the country tunes of Buzzer the Bush Balladeer. Jojo had a dance and Max and Sam were enthralled by his musical stories of his past. He even tried a sing along with a rendition of “I like to Have a Beer with Duncan” with a mainly German audience. Slim Dusty would have been proud. (Yes that is the only country singer I know)
Drummond Cove, 10km north of Geralton was the next stop. Geralton has a brilliant museum that kept us busy for hours…I confess that one of the exhibits was a visiting toy exhibition, but much was learnt all the same. To escape the heat we
Perth
Water Babies went to the local cinema for our first movie: Monsters vs. Aliens…I do not recommend it … I give it one star for having a female hero…but even she was irritating.
Now we are in Horrocks Beach, a quiet little seaside spot where I have already had a game of tennis with Max and had to convince Sam not to blow all his spending money for the year on a new fishing rod. He has already checked out the jetty for tomorrow’s fishing ritual. Will let you know how it goes..Til next time its Kornies5 signing off.
