Drove past Emu Downs Wind Farm - not all of the turbines were going - on the way to Dandaragan. We stopped for lunch at Pioneer Park which was next to the sporting complex. You could stay there with a powered site, toilets and showers. All very new and clean, but at 12.30pm it was too early to stop.
Headed to New Norcia through Moora (town of murals). There were lots of canola and wheat fields on the way. New Norcia is a town which was built by the Benedictine Monks. Was too late to go on the walking tour of town, but had a look at the beautiful buildings, until the kids had had enough.
Down to Wannamal Rest Area and camped right next to the BBQ shelter to keep the swags dry overnight. There was more rain, so we didn’t rush to leave in the morning, again waiting for the canvas to dry a little. Had been caught once before packing up with water left sitting on the canvas. It pools and then we you set up again you have to dodge the trickle which happens to run off and down your back!! Well Gill’s back anyway.
Emu Wind Farm
Wind Turbines - doesn't seem to bother the cows There was a bus that stopped with a bunch of tourists looking at the wildflowers. Alex & Rod went through the bush and took photos of some wild orchids and other flowers.
Off to the Gravity Discovery Centre. It was very similar to Scienceworks, except it had a Leaning Tower (built to resemble the Leaning Tower of Pisa). It had a lean of 15° and was 45m high. Italy’s Tower is 6° and 68m high. Once up there (took Gill a long time - very scary) you got to drop water bombs down a tube and onto the sand. The sand was wet and Rod didn’t fill his balloons much, so Rod’s balloons bounced instead of breaking. Lots of interesting facts about the Big Bang Theory and the future of the Earth. There was curved glass and when you take a photo through it, it places a void-like hole in the person on the other side (photo explains). The kids could have played there all day.
Went to Two Rocks and took a photo of the King Neptune’s sculpture. Through Yanchep and Hillarys - very expensive, elite houses here. Into Scarborough and managed to find my old house
New Norcia
Abbey Church were I lived. Scarborough Beach Road has changed so much in the last 16 years, I hardly recognised it. Drove down the Freeway and through Perth to Ascot (an Eastern suburb of Perth). I managed to remember my way, with only a little glance at the map. Rain was forecast and dark clouds made us put up the large awning and sides. Yep, we were right - it rained. We are staying a week, so it gives us a bit of privacy too. Will catch up with Diane & Geoff (who we met in Coral Bay) on Sunday. Noel & Helen will arrive at same caravan park on Tuesday. Meeting Margaret (our customer for 7 years) at her beach house Rockingham next Saturday. She has kindly offered us the back yard to stay if it suits.
I can safely say we lost the warm weather about Geraldton, now having sunny days and rainy days. I suppose we have been lucky with the weather, just hope the sun tan lasts until we get home. Kate’s hair at the front is so blonde, it is almost white. Alex & Rod both need haircuts, but are willing to wait until we get
home.
