It was around the time that I realised we were looking for Serpentine Waterfall
in the wrong national that it also dawned on me that I couldn’t be having more
fun. Yes, four and half days of pure stupidity with mates from home was
underway.
The reason, one of our good mates enrolled in flight training school in Bullsbrook
WA was graduating from the air force as a bonafide pilot. Not just a pilot, he had
just learned that he’d been posted to RAAF jets ‐ every pilots dream. Now I could
say really wanky things like the pinnacle of aviation and the fulfilment of one’s
life long dream but let’s just settle for jets involves going really really fast. Rhys
we salute you.
I had the privilege of venturing West with my esteemed colleagues Jacob and
Pieter. Perth is amazing; between wandering Kings Park and partying in
Northbridge we found time to venture down to Fremantle. We decided to see
this beautiful stretch of coastline in style. That’s right we decided to really lash
out, really make a statement, spend up big…
We received a couple of dirty looks burning up to Cottesloe on our 60cc scooters,
annoying the beautiful people on a gorgeous sunny Saturday afternoon, the sun
setting over the Indian Ocean, topped off with fish and Chips that evening at
Fremantle wharf, aahhhh good times.
Which brings me back to a national park somewhere between Perth and
Margaret River looking for that elusive waterfall. We were later to learn that the
waterfall we were looking for was actually over 300Km from our present
location.
Undeterred we pushed on. Arriving in Margaret River, Rhys gave us the tour of
the breaks littered up and down the coast of this world famous region. The fact
that none of us had brought a board made a fantastic excuse seeing as it was
absolutely freezing.
Jacob, Pieter and I enrolled in a wine tour, the next day we were chauffeured
mercilessly from winery to winery sampling some of the finest whites, and the
occasional red, the region had to offer. The tour was a load of fun, and
considering that Jacob is currently enrolled in a wine appreciation subject at
University, he was able to provide insightful commentary regarding most of the
local drops. Jacob actually won a prize from the tour operator for he’s stand out
performance in the end of tour quiz.
In conclusion Perth and the surrounding regions South of Perth (Bunbury
Dunsborough, Busselton, Yallingup etc) are incredibly beautiful. It is now clear to
me that there is a well organised conspiracy amongst those living on the West
Coast to keep this incredibly beautiful part of the world a secret. Well no longer
the secrets out!
Until next time Hoo Roo.
