Bus
Finally started seeing plenty of sheep. So we were picked up from Monkey Mia around 3:30am. Definitely one of our earliest bus rides. We transferred over to the proper Greyhound bus at a roadhouse, and arrived in Kalbarri around 10am (which involved another transfer too). Can you guess what the rest of that day involved? If you guessed sleeping, you’d be correct! Lol We checked out the town before dinner, and picked up some groceries at the IGA. I don’t think I mentioned this before, but it seems IGA is pretty common here (mostly in smaller towns). I wonder if it’s a worldwide organization.
Tuesday was got up at a decent time and worked on the blog. The hostel was good size, with large rooms, and a big kitchen. Washrooms though were few and small, but luckily we didn’t run into too much trouble with that. That afternoon I took another nap, while Hillary either napped or played Minesweeper. When you wreck your sleeping pattern, it’s tough getting on track again. That night we watched the International (Clive Owen and Naomi Watts).
Wednesday we took a tour out to the National Park. It was something that was suggested to us, but without a car we

The more we watch the movie Australia, the more we love it. needed to wait for a running tour. We had a good time, and saw some beautiful views. We checked out the Loop and Z Bend (two walking trails with views), and saw Nature’s Window, a rock formation over looking a river. It was a small tour, and locally owned. In fact, we even had the tour guide’s son with us! Definitely a talkative 7 year old, who knew more about plants and wildlife than I’ll ever know in my lifetime. Haha We had a good time playing guessing games like how old his dog was, and what day was Hillary’s birthday.
Kalbarri was also the town where Hillary’s enjoyment of fish and chips took a sudden jump. She first started to like it back in Exmouth, but after another tasting at a local shop in Kalbarri, we were having it every other day! She either really liked it, or we were just too lazy to cook anything. Lol
Thursday we walked down to Rainbow Jungle, a bird sanctuary (mostly parrots and cockatoos I think). There was a vast collection of both native and internationals birds, and we had arrived just in time for some feedings. There birds were

This is what happens when I let Hillary use my camera. Lots of pictures of the back of my head. really active, and there were some free flight areas where you could help feed them. It was crazy all the different colours. It makes you wonder how these birds are able to evade predators in the wild when they’re bright blue and yellow!
We did one last walk around the town that night, and headed back to the hostel to watch another movie. The night before we had watched Fanboys, and this night we watched Push. Kalbarri was a good type of town to just bunker down and enjoy a good movie because at night it got pretty cold, and nothing was really open late. Lol Well, that was it for Kalbarri. Our next stop would be the biggest city we’d visited since Brisbane all the way back in March!
