We were picked up at 7am by Nick from Western Exposure to go and meet the bus we would be travelling about on! Met the rest of the people, did some intros on the bus and there's a big mix of people and Steve is our guide and driver for the week! On we gooo......
After Perth it is crazy, there is nothing North of Perth for miles, it is classed as the Outback after you go north of Perth but I expected a few little villages or something! Just lots of kangeroos hiding in the bushes...although I kept missing them...booooo!! I saw an Emu and I saw one kangeroo but he wasn't booingging! how rude! there's still time though!!
First Stop...Pinnacles Desert... this is in Nambung National Park and which is 250km north of Perth. The Pinnacles desert is an area with limestone pillars which stick randomly out the sand..there are hundreds and are all different shapes and sizes. They believe that these pillars rose mysteriously from the sand dunes because they came from marine life and their shells which were broken down into lime rich sands..the wind then blew them inland and the winter rain leached the
lime sands, cementing the grains together. it's really weird place but amazing to see. I had read about them before we came so was pleased we had got to go there! there were so many flies though! They go all over your face and try and get in your ears it horrible! forgot about the fly problem over here! Someone told me thats why ozzies don't open their mouths that much when they talk, its so the flies don't get in!! Makes sense to me!!
Had a picnic lunch by the beach, it's all hands on deck and we all muck in and make the lunch and do the washing up etc etc, which is really nice, gives it more of an atmosphere, like camping! Saw slanting trees which when they grow, end up being on their side almost as the wind is that strong, they can't grow upwards! funny eh!
We then went to Geraldton, further north for some sandboarding on the sand dunes!! excellent!!!! You put wax on the boards so it doesn't stick to the sand and you go faster!! Was a bit wary as my foot is killing but I will not be defeated!!
It was brilliant! First time I lost my balance and ended up with a mouthful of sand..not so pleasant but the second time I was whizzing - weeeeeee!! Nice bit of adrenalin rush for the afternoon!
