Nice theatre. This is where we saw Michael Jackson's "This is it" On Tuesday the 3rd, it was time for a bit of planning. If we wanted to go to Tasmania, we definitely needed to start booking things. We spent a bit of the day looking at tours, and then spent a good amount of time at the mall. After some shopping, we saw the movie “This is it”, the Michael Jackson film. It was great hearing the classics, but we were hoping it would be a bit more in depth in regards to his dancing.
Wednesday was a big day, we booked our tours! After getting a pair of haircuts in the morning, we went to another travel centre for some more information and options. We narrowed it down to two, and finally chose Under Down Under as our Tassie tour! So keep a look out because on Nov 10th, we’d be flying out to Tasmania!
Thursday is when things got interesting. Hillary and I would be spending the weekend apart! She was flying to Sydney to visit her friend Brittany who’d been working in Brisbane (all the way from London, Ontario)! No matter where you are in the world, there’ll always be friends to see. So she flew off

Great rooftop patio. that afternoon for a few days of fun in the sun. Myself? Well, I took this opportunity to go all out and sit down writing blogs all evening. Aren’t you readers all so lucky? That day I also had to change dorm rooms, since I didn’t have my girlfriend anymore. I suppose it makes sense to keep single guys in all male dorms, it’s just a pain moving around.
Friday I explored more of the city, and made use of my new found solitude by stopping every few steps and taking plenty of pictures. I saw city hall, the museum, the exhibition building and some of the quieter areas of the city. In cities of this size, you can spend days walking around and still not see everything. Back at the hostel, I relaxed on the rooftop with other travelers enjoying my wireless internet and catching up on some blogs (although as you can see, we never did quite catch up). That night was quite a chilly one. And unfortunately, the window in my room was jammed open. To make matters worse, my bed was the closest to the window. Ah well, just had to curl up nice and
City
Bit of a quiet day. tight in my blanket, and in the morning got it all sorted out.
Saturday I enjoyed a bit of leisure time at the casino. Back at home, the majority of casinos tend to be way out from the city. That’s probably a good thing when I think about it, because the temptation is just so much greater when it’s more accessible. I spent the morning at the tables, and treated myself to some fancy McDonalds for lunch. That afternoon I continued my photo taking journey of Melbourne, and wound up back at the hostel by dinner time. Of course “dinner time” is the worst time to try cooking anything in the kitchen (6-7pm), so I usually wander in around 10pm to make something to eat. I may love the city, but if I can I’ll still try to avoid the crowds.
Now what was Hillary doing all this time in Sydney? To be perfectly honest, I’m not quite sure. I never did get a detailed description of her weekend. I do know that she had fun, so I guess that’s all that counts. For kicks though, let’s try and piece it together with the help of the photos
Leaving
Hillary off for a girl's weekend in Sydney. she took with her camera.
So Thursday, she did nothing. No photos. Lol Well, what I do know is that she met up with her friend and her friend’s mother that night. Must have been a quiet night. Friday she was checking out some familiar sights, like the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Been there, done that. Haha And that night they went out for a bit of drinking and partying (nice outfits!). Saturday must have been the beach day. Hillary had been in Australia for 9 months up to this point, and she was still worrying about her tan. Lol
Sunday was the big reunion. Hillary and I would meet again at last! Lol We enjoyed our time apart, but we have to admit that traveling this long together has sort of made us inseparable. We then checked into the third Melbourne YHA, this one the Oasis. It was a much quieter hostel, further away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and a nice change of pace. That night we enjoyed some good old fashion tv, courtesy of the hostel (with less people we actually got the chance to choose the show!).
Monday was

Very iconic service for the Australia Post. basically be our last full day in Melbourne, so we checked out one of the biggest sights still left in the city, the Eureka Tower. This tower boasts having the highest observation platform in the Southern Hemisphere, and being the world’s tallest residential building! The building itself is quite cool, and sort of looks like a big torch. We got some great views up there. Much like Sydney, it’s amazing how much more is out there once you’re able to take it all in. Afterwards, we grabbed a late lunch and picked up what more we needed for our big trip the following day. A trip within a trip. How about that?
