Birthdays and Visitors
Just in time for Suze's birthday, Jane and Betty came to stay for three weeks to celebrate it and spend some time exploring more of Melbourne and its surrounds. We spent Suze's birthday on the beach with a big bbq, a spot of cricket and some swimming in the sea in nearby Elwood which was a very Aussie birthday!
After spending a week or so around Sr Kilda we went down to the Great Ocean road wth Jane, stopping in at a couple of really nice apartments along the way at Lorne and Apollo Bay which was pretty much right on the beach. We also visited the Otway Flyer treetops walk which was great walking around at the same level as the tops of the massive trees in the area, and even managed to make it to the 12 Apostles within the 3 days we were down there and headed back to Melbourne calling in at a few beautifully secluded beaches along the way.
We also spent a week down the Mornington Peninsular just a few hundred kilometers south of Melbourne visiting the small towns of Sorrento and Rye and had a great time relaxing
on the practically empty beaches. Alas after a few nice family meals down Fitzroy Street it was time to say farewell to Betty and Jane as they headed off back home, and it wasn't long before we were to recieve a visit from Gail and Roy.

After a week showing the folks around Melbourne we went off for a weekend in Sydney seeing the sights and staying in a really nice hotel in the heart of the city,. The following week we headed back down to the Mornington Peninsular and the Great Ocean road as well but we didn't mind at all, considering the great weather we had on both occasions and also considering the natural beauty of both places. On the drive to Apollo Bay we also managed to see quite a few koalas in the trees really close to the road too which was a real bonus.
Due to both of us having to work, Gail and Roy managed to keep themselves amused for the remainder of the trip and took in the Dandenongs region as well as the Melbourne zoo and it was with tears (yet again) that they both departed
back to England. No more fancy restaurants for us any more!
The Easter weekend we hired a van and headed down to Phillip Island which was amazing. Again we were lucky enough to have great weather and our campsite was great. The main town of Cowes was small but had everything we needed and the island had some amazing beaches, as well as the attraction of the penguins as hundreds of them march back on to the beach as the sun came down back to their nests.
The following weekend we spent at Bill and Helens to celebrate the Greek Orthodox easter which was great, two easters in one, bonus.
