Cakes Cakes Everywhere
This city seems to be made of cakes! We had cakes ALOT! Well Hello Everybody and a Happy New Year! It’s been a few weeks since our last posting, but I’m sure you have all been busy with the festivities to care!
Weather Report: Arrival into Melbourne was oddly cold we were still in summer clothes expecting the same from what we’d had in Bali… The airport was cold we put it down to being early in the morning… next few days were mild, was refreshing.
We have been in Melbourne for the last 2 and half weeks, and well the weather has been quite interesting to put it nicely. I had been dreaming of a hot summer on the other side of the world yet what we received was Melbourne’s famous 4 seasons in one day! It was sunny and wet and windy and cold yet if you stood in the sun it was hot! Messed up very messed up! Christmas day here at my cousins still went on as usual a whole lamb on the spit plus all the usual extra Greek dishes, and this all took place out in the garden!
Weather Report: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day - Disastrous! Cold wet and some sun,
might as well of been in London!
The Great Ocean Road, one of the Must Do’s in Australia! We headed off from Melbourne 2 cars 7 people and a lot of fishing gear! We started off early and drove along the windy roads stopping off at the main points to see along the way. We of course stopped off to see the Twelve Apostles although only a few remain, and it was nice to see, some might say we just went to see some rocks big deal! But when you’ve only seen pics and heard about them it was nice to actually say I was there!
We went for a tree top walk in the forest and saw lots of trees but from up in the canopy. We went down to a beach called the Grotto where there was a sort of small cave system running from the sea front up to near the roadside, it’s been formed over many years by the sea bashing away at it, half way down there was a wall to stop people from going any further but Dave and my cousins all just climbed over to see how much further they could go
Xmas Dinner Before...
The lamb ready for the christmas feast... and to take some pictures for me, as I didn’t want to climb over myself. We stoped at a couple of other places along the way you where you could see some parts of shipwreck’s, and walk on the flat pretty rocks.
Our last stop was Warrnambool (Womble Womble as I named it) it took us until 9pm to arrive at the hotel we were staying at. We dropped our stuff of and headed into the town to get some dinner, we ended up in a restaurant where your meat comes out on hot stone and then you cook it to your likening, after the hours wait for that to arrive, we were less than amused at having to cook it ourselves, yet after the long days drive we ate as fast as we could! Then it was time to find out what night sea fishing is all about, my cousins here are into this relaxing sport so I was excited to find out what all the fuss was about. Dave even got to try, as I bounced about blinding them all while taking pictures! After a few drinks it was a little fun to watch as they pulled out
Xmas Dinner After...
After people gathered to pick at the little bits of mean left on the poor little lamb. sea weed chunks and then little fishes that they had to throw back in. After a few long hours of this I was frozen, tired and a little board so I waited in the car asleep! The result apparently got better Dave caught a Barracuda fish but I was sleeping so I have no picture to prove it! Other fishes were caught but I don’t know what they were?
Weather Report: Warm day’s, cold nights.
New years was superb the weather had gotten nicer over the course of the week and we headed out of Melbourne down to one of the nicer beaches called Sorrento, was still too cold for going in to the water but, it was nice enough to see the sunset then have a BBQ and drink the night away! We ended up watching the sun come up as well before we finally headed off to bed, needless to say we didn’t get out of bed until late afternoon the next day. New Years Day was spent feasting at an Aunts house.
Weather Report: New Years Eve, New Years Day - getting warmer and sun popping out more.
My Birthday was an excellent
Cookie Monster
Cookie Monster found in Melbourne jail convicted of steeling Bav's armband! fun packed day, we started the day off at a delicious chocolate café were I was treated by my cousins to the yummiest chocolate waffles for brunch! Then we headed to Melbourne’s top shopping centre for a few hours of shopping. Back home for a change into my new clothes and a birthday cake awaiting me with way too many candles on it! I’m getting old :o( We then headed out into central Melbourne to Victoria Night Market, this was nice packed out with people and lots of food stalls to choose from. We bought a massive selection of foods from around the world and we even tried Kangaroo (I’m very sad to report it was bloody delicious) Sorry little roo’s! We finished the night off in a pub getting me a little drunken! O.K very drunken but it was my birthday after all.
Weather Report: 3rd Jan I turn 27 and it’s a nice hot sunny day!
Philip Island - it takes two hour’s to drive down to Philip Island and all to see the smallest Penguins in the world. They come out of the sea shortly after sunset and waddle there way into their homes …..

Convicted of being too cute. was soooooo cute! A very fascinating thing to see them coming home at night. They come out and gather in to little herds and then make there way up the beach to there burrow’s. Some get scared along the way and run back, where they surf back into the safety of water. You can walk along the path and watch them making there way home, they don’t all go straight home, some just sit around, some head into the bush and make sweet Penguin Love! Sooo funny the sounds they make! Well I had to be pulled away from watching them as the Boys got bored. After all the fun it was time for some midnight fishing down at a local beach, Dave and my Cousin tried until about 2 in the morning to catch something good for our dinner but with no luck we headed home!
Hi Dave’s bit now.
The Melbourne Gaol the earliest prison in Melbourne was built in the early 1800’s to house the days criminals after the gold rush in the area. Obviously it got filled really quickly what with all the criminals we sent here in the first place. It was an

The other famous fact about this prison is that it was the place where Ned Kelly was held and hanged. We got to see the actual platform and noose where he would have stood, and the cell he spent his last night in, the best bit for me was getting to try on the replica of his armour.
Another highlight for me was getting taken around Melbourne’s Formula one track. It’s open to everyday traffic most of the year only being shut down to host the grand prix in late March. The best part of being shown around the circuit was the car that we did it in, El’s cousin George’s bright red Ford Mustang. The car is stunning and the sound from the engine as it accelerates is just soooo cool, I have absolutely fallen in love with the car. In fact most of my highlights of Melbourne have involved cruising around the city and its surroundings in that car.
That was it from our first leg in Melbourne, we are In Sydney now and will update on our
Dave's protection.
Dave wearing Ned Kelly's armour at the Goal. new adventures soon.
Weather Report: Sydney and its not much different to when we left Melbourne warm day and a cool evening.
Lots of Love El and Dave xx

happy xmas, new year, birthday and anniversary! remember, sydney opera house's famous roof was designed to reflect pieces of a sphere and not sails from the harbour boats. as those around the world, including australia, foolishly conclude. tsk.
