G'day,
So i know i haven't doen a blog in a longgggggg time, but i finally finished work in Sydney so i now have free time to actually do some traveling. I finished up at the trucking company in Sydney about 3 weeks ago now - work wasn't great but managed to save soem money to now see some of Oz. Spent my first week of Freedom hanging around Sydney and visiting the Blue mountains again to do some hiking (there are photos on facebook). Also stayed in Sydney for Mardi Gras Festival which was AMAZING!!! the Aussie certainly know how to celebrate. I got dressed up for the night wearing fairy wings and masks, so much fun. After Mardi Gras, I headed to Melbourne with Jen for a week.
Melbourne is very different to Sydney, lots more character to the place and a much more relaxed vibe to the place. Surprisingly the weather really picked up while we were there, and we saw some Victorian sunshine. We tried to fit in as much as possible in our week. We made use of the trams that go around the city, ate ourselves stupid in the Queen Victoria Markets (biggest markets in the world i believe), went up the Eurka building and experienced the Skydeck at floor 88 - the highest viewing platform in the Southern Hemisphere. We also went on a tour to Philip Island to see the Pengiun March. The tour was really good. We got driven down to Philip Island, about 2hrs form Melbourne, and on the way stopped off at a wildlife park where we patted a koala. You aren't allowed to hold them. We also fed the kangaroos. Philip Island is really pretty, famous for the motorbike Grand Prix and the Penguin March. The Penguin March is the walk, or hobble, the little penguins (you aren't meant ot call them fairy penguins anymore) make from the sea to there nests every night after sunset. You aren't allowed to take photos of them, as you could kill them with the flash, Basically the flash would blind them and then they wouldn't be able to find food. The little penguins were so cute. You watch them come out of the sea and hobble along the sand in gorups of 5-10. They then make their way to their nests. They are only about 10 inches tall and just adorable. Melbourne pics are on facebook
Somethings we didn't do in Melbourne like the neighbours tour (sorry Bec) but I will return with Shell to do this another day. I really liked Melbourne and it was just the change i needed after spending 4 months in Sydney.
After Melbourne we returned back to Sydney in time for Paddy's Day. Again the Aussies go all out for any celebration. Sydney was packed with people in Guinness hats - i was wearing mine! :-) Basically did a little pub crawl around the Irish pubs in Sydney, also became roadies for a band called 'Dublin Up' half way through the day (i kid you not), carried a guitar into a pub, i got in free so didn't mind!
So, now i'm on the West Coast in Perth, hanging out with Sarah. We are getting a campervan on friday to drive up the coast - so excited. I'm sure there will be lots to tell.
miss you guys
xxxxx
