Saturday 10th Maypresented us with a magnificent sunrise and a great opportunity to enjoy breakfast in the annex enjoying the water views. After breakfast we packed a lunch and thermos and headed off on a 25 klm walk. The walks were listed as the 'Mallacoota Lakeside Shared Pathway' (probably the most scenic lakeside walk in Australia), 'The Narrows' & 'Buckland's Jetty to Captain Creek', all followed the outline of the Mallacoota Inlet. The first part of the walk was a constructed walking/bike path with several areas of board walk over small creeks. We past many jetties and saw lots of bird life that allowed Evelyn to update her Australian Bird Book. The constructed walking path that started just outside the caravan park ended at the Karbeethong Jetty where fishing and house boats are moored.
The second part of the walk was through part of the Croajingolong National Park. The park extends from the Sydenham Inlet to the New South Wales border. This part of the park hugs the Mallacoota Inlet and is in stark contrast to the inlet itself.
We walked along the narrow single file track and enjoyed the quiet as well as the views over the inlet.
After about an hour's walking with the weather changing and feeling spots of rain we turned back stopping for lunch at Karbeethong Jetty before heading back to the caravan park. In total we had walked for 4 hours. A great walk and a great day.
Sunday 11th May was again another sunny morning with breakfast in the annex looking over the water. We headed off to St Peters for the 9.00am service, a service of Morning Prayer. It's a great congregation, it is relaxed and so much like Holy Trinity & St Chads. The service was followed by the traditional morning tea then Roger showed us around the Church pointing out some of the small renovation tasks he had for us. A Parish Council meeting later would authorise the expenditure required to complete the tasks. Great news for us as we are raring to start.
On
Monday 12th May Roger had organised a meeting for us at the Op Shop with Jean the Op Shop coordinator. Seems that due to a slight accident the volunteer who looks after the 1pm to 3pm shift was unavailable and with no other volunteer Jean wondered if we could help out. As
God has removed the word
'NO' from our vocabulary relating to church tasks, we said yes, and spent a great couple of hours manning the Op Shop and serving customers. We must add that at the moment it's not a busy time in Mallacoota.
At the 9.00am service on Sunday one of the congregation, Maureen, mentioned that she would be away for the next 3 Sunday due to holidays. Maureen is on the Parish Council and at the monthly meeting on Sunday; Maureen mentioned to Roger that she was having some trouble finding a house sitter to look after the house and her 2 dogs while she was away. Roger suggested us so after we finished at the Op Shop we met with Maureen and now we will not be moving to the Manse on Thursday but will be heading to Maureen's for 3 weeks.
Tuesday 13th May and Roger arrived at the caravan with a key to the Church and a list of tasks for us. Some are small and some not so small but it's up to us which ones we do and in what order we do them.
Wednesday 14th May and we had
decided which task to start with at St Peters. The main Church doors need sanding back and re varnishing. We decided that we should first clean down the entrance porch and remove all the cobwebs and dust and also wipe down the doors. This took a couple of hours during which time Evelyn had received a phone call to see if she could help out at the Op Shop between 1pm & 3pm.
Wednesday night we were invited to dinner by the Revd. Roger & his wife Suzanne along with the Revd. John & his wife Yvonne and our friends from Hasting Revd. Alan Hoskins & his wife Philippa - Wow we were surrounded by Revd.'s. It was a great night, great Christian fellowship and of course great food.
Thursday 15thMay and we packed up the caravan ready to leave the Mallacoota foreshore caravan and camping ground and head to Maureen's but not before a visit from Alan & Philippa who wanted to see the caravan and say goodbye. When we arrived at Maureen's Roger was on hand to help us back the car into the driveway. Maureen’s house is a double storey house set on a hill
with a view from the top storey overlooking Mallacoota Inlet and Gabo Island, spectacular. We have settle into Maureen's very quickly and the two dogs, Skie & Brandy have taken to us so we are looking forward to what the next 3 weeks brings, it will certainly be different than the first two weeks.
Friday 16th May and we are spending the day sanding down the two church doors ready for re staining. The weather continues to be great, fine & sunny, so working outside is a real bonus.
God is always in control of our lives and He continues to bless us with His Grace and His gifts.
