Four weeks after leaving Melbourne, we spent our first night in a proper bed. And we slept like logs! In the morning, we had the opportunity to check out Blaithin and Rory’s absolutely stunning house, before having breakfast on the balcony overlooking the lake… and the neighbour’s house, which is a castle. We experienced total house envy and are happy to house-sit anytime at all, you guys!

After a leisurely morning (it was the morning of the night before), we took a drive and visited the Buchan Caves. These caves were actually discovered with tourism in mind. They were created by an underground stream which still fills the nearby, rather murky looking, “swimming pool”. The stalactites and stalagmites were very impressive and, as it was a sweltering 42 degree day, the 17 degree underground temperature was delicious.

In the afternoon, Dean put together my new bicycle (thank you!) and we all headed out to Lake Tyers for a brisk walk along the beautiful beach and an al fresco dinner at The Wheel pub.

Some words of warning for those of you who know, or are about to know, Andrew Boldero. When he says to you “it’s a really nice view out here – let’s take this detour”, don’t expect to get home anytime before 8pm to midnight. However, if you want to see some great views, carry on.Lakes Entrance & Buchan Caves
