victorian mountains mt beauty
the view from where i lived in tawonga south/ mt beauty Well, as I write this it is, infact, six months on from the event alas it's never too late too try eh?!
So, here I am in the midst of the australian cold for another season, I must be crazy. My friends and family back home did think so. The drive down was an adventure in itself, picking up numerous fines on the way, this is a good time to mention them actually.
*Coming from Brisbane going to Byron Bay was the first part of the journey being for Comeback Kids (Canada)concert at the Byron Bay high school. This was very fun but I do remember being extremely tired from the week of finishing work, having goodbye events and viewing AT WORLDS END(pirates 3) premeire....so the moshing proved aerobic! The end of this gig would be the last goodbyes to my friends. Jeremy my brother was not there however. I remember Jono I think it was mentioning "stay away from the swedish backpacker" or something to that esteem. It was 10pm on the 26th of may and that night I drove for five hours sleeping in the car somewhere below Coffs Harbour. Prior to this I forgot to unclick
my other home
the place to stay if you are down that way the high headlight beams and consequently recieved a $70 fine from a highway patrol police officer..OOPPS. this may have had something to do with driving at 1am!!
*Now, i had 5 hours sleep and drove to Gosford which is an hour above Sydney to where Shane a cousin did reside with his girlfriend and her mother. The car needed a new radiator filler tank and so i stayed there 2 nights. We went ice skating at a nice rink.
*3rd day driving - all the way to my "other home" in Tawonga South (right next to Mt Beauty) This became hard given the extremely heavy rain that came from nowwhere towards Albury - most cars had to pull over to the side of the road and wait until there was visibility. That night safe in the house at Tawonga I realised how many things I had brought , far too much! The next day Falls creek 30km up the mountain drive awaited me again.
The first drive up Failing to mention I hit a rather large Kangaroo on the NSW coast would mean the next paragraph would be hard to understand....the Roo was dead,
king parrot
i think thats what it is called , i have a feeling it has another name but, it took off the mud flap at the back. Getting up the icey road to falls was fine, it was getting to the hotel where I worked which was harder. The extra snow on this road ment my snow chains got caught on the piece of exposed car where the roo interupted and i fish tailed violently until no more I could gain altitude...my boss came down to see how I was going and we took off the chain on the problematic wheel, reversed back down to the main road and parked in the general car park. So far the season was going smoothly.
So work was good for a week(carpet cleaning), because there was no action on the slopes anyway as it was early before the season actually started. The next week after meeting a couple from Melbourne who were to stay in the house down the mountain with me and 3 others I moved along and drove to Melbourne (a 3-4 hour drive) to meet up with my american friend I met in Christchurch in Feb. She and I
the drive up
not actually the first drive up falls creek road but there is some snow as you can see travelled to Tasmania after doing Melbourne and the Great Ocean road (my second time doin the drive!!)and it was awesome time. Hobart we stayed with my friend who worked at Falls Creek in 06 and she took us to Frecineyt (spelling) up the east coast - this was a road trip with 4 girls! The beach there is amazing and I swam (the water was about 5-10 degrees!!!!) Another nice thing in Tasmania was in Hobart itself , Mt Wellington next to the city where it snowed! Attending the Salablanca markets on a sunday we almost missed our bus to the airport for the flight back to Melbourne~~! We did this by ordering prints of digital photos! Scary! photos can always wait you know.
The most excitement of the Melbourne trip was a criminal act that happened in Flinders Lane where Greenhouse backbackers is...and obviously murders! A double homocide occured an hour after marlayne and i walked to the car to head to the ocean road, my mum calling after she heard to check if i was alive! crazy times. The next few days there were news people and policeman everywhere.
And that was one of
snowman
first week of boarding and june many weeks off I had in 07 the start of, it was back to Mt Beauty to meet someone...
Evidently because of the girls road trip plus me where they listened to some emotional 80's pop rock I stopped in at Sanity music and purchase an expensive cd by Roxette. Roxette are Swedish which brings me to the blogs next topic... Coming home to the work share house i was asked for a screw drive by a young lady who was trying to fit bindings to her snowboard, and infact I had one to give. Turns out this girl Jenny became quite a hit in my life you could say.......
