I love you
My little furry pig Last day in Tassie and we drove up 30 minutes to Bonorong Wildlife Park.
On entry, they gave us a bag of food to go hand-feed the kangaroos with. You walk around the corner and there, sprawled just about everywhere (with an amazing hilly backdrop) were every size of kangaroo imaginable. Some jumping around, others being fed and my favourites, the ones lying on their sides looking like they were missing a can of beer and tv.
We fed them for a while and then joined a guided tour of the park.
I make no secret of the fact that wombats are my absolute favourite Australian animal and today, I was privileged enough to meet the most amazing orphaned baby wombat. The woman keeper (Bianca) was brilliant and told us all about him, how he came to be at Bonorong and how he would eventually be released back into the wildlife. She then let me pat him and have a photo taken with him. I was in love and very tempted to steal him away. I didn't though, just to clear that up.
We then bet the wonderful Tasmanian devils which were much bigger and calmer than
I expected. Bianca threw some food to them and it was interesting to see how they interacted with each other over dinner. And to hear that famous Tasmanian devil cry not too far off from the noise that the Warner Bros Taz makes!
Bianca then picked up a two year old koala named Burt and placed him on a perch. He hadn't yet clocked onto the fact that he's supposed to sleep for 20 hours a day yet which was good for us.
We were able to have a little stroke of his back, took more photos and then returned to the kangaroos to feed them a bit more.
After a fantastic morning at Bonorong, we headed down the road to Cadbury's chocolate factory and could smell the chocolate long before we could see it. Must be great to live around here!
We walked in and were each handed a fairly decent sized bar of free chocolate and made our way to a presentation... all about chocolate. And we were given lots more free samples. I stocked up on Cherry Ripes. I've never seen them at home before but love them and they're one of Australia's
best-selling chocolate bars.
We then sat through a video (or do we say DVD now?) about Cadbury's, were given more free samples and then taken through to taste chocolate in its purest form which sounded amazing! Only it wasn't. It was one of the bitterest things I have ever tasted kind of like the time I decided to put dry instant coffee in my mouth but worse.
But to make things better, an array of dark, milk and white chocolate were placed in front of me and I was happy once again.
Tour completed and we entered the factory shop where you discover the real different between cost and retail price. A bar of chocolate in the shops would set you back a hefty $4.90 or so but in here it was only $2.60. So of course, I stocked up.
After a choc-filled afternoon we had a couple of hours to kill before the car had to be back and annoyingly, it started to rain (surprise!)
We decided to head towards the botantic gardens and managed to drive completely past them to a little picnic spot on top of a hill where we stopped to
play cards and admire the view.
Soon, our time in Tasmania was up. Sad times. But I came away thinking that it's a genuinely amazing place and anyone who who has travelled all the way over to Oz would be greatly disadvantaged to miss out on this little gem.
