We got married back in the day … the number is pretty big… and yet it doesn’t seem that long ago. We’ve had an awesome time together. We find the silver lining in every situation. We have always loved and supported each other. We are the best of friends.
We are ‘romance tragics’. We don’t need fancy gifts and splashy resort holidays to celebrate our years together. We just love to spend a fun day together … perhaps like any other day in our life … doing things we love to do.
If you’re gagging already, perhaps you should skip the rest of this blog.
It was not Sunday, but we did start the day with a smoked salmon, asparagus and citrus omelette. Beautifully prepared and served by Greg with a glass of orange and bubbles. A good start to a day of indulgence.
Mid-morning, we arrived at Oyster HQ for a tour to their nearby oyster lease where Brad entertained us with lots of history and information about oysters. We learned to shuck oysters, how to prepare and keep them and how to eat them. Four oysters were given to each person. Shuck them and you
could eat them.
Before going to the lease, we dressed in waders, and waded along the beach to a semi-submerged pavilion where we sat at a bar ready for the presentation. Before dressing in our waders we could purchase drinks to sip on, while on the tour. These were delivered to the pavilion. Not sure how many would have made it that far if we had to carry them plus try and keep our balance as we negotiated the rocks submerged in the water. All part of the immersion experience. There were about 20 people in the group. By the time we reached the pavilion the wind had picked up quite a bit so if you didn’t hang onto your drink, you lost it.
Everyone seemed to have a story. It was the second day on the job for Brad’s assistant. He was loving it. He had taken 12 months leave from a high stress, and very well paid job in the city as his wife had won a job in Port Lincoln. We don’t think he will be returning to his old job! A young couple were on their honeymoon even though they hadn’t been able to
have their wedding yet as it had been cancelled twice already. A number of others were from Victoria or NSW waiting for restrictions to be lifted before they returned home.
By the end of the session everyone could shuck oysters. Some better than others. We waded back to Oyster HQ for our lunch booking. On the way out we bought a shucking tool and then Greg headed around to the Oyster sheds to buy some oysters for dinner. The price varied so much depending on where you purchased them. Every place higher up the chain had their mark up. Greg got them for $10/doz. Our neighbours got some for $15/doz. It paid to shop around.
After all that activity, seafood and wine we needed a bit of a nap.
We love the challenge of cooking fancy …. But we only do simple … in the caravan. We had decided on a menu and bought some ingredients and wine before we left home.
Entrée was freshly shucked oysters with an Asian salsa of lemon, fish sauce and kaffir lime. An old favourite but a goodie! Bubbles of course.
This was followed by seared duck breast with
a cherry and orange sauce, braised asparagus and snow peas and rosemary and garlic BBQed potatoes. It was delicious. Not bad for something we had not made before. A lovely Central Otago Pinot with duck, of course.
And finally for dessert we had strawberries poached in honey, orange and Riesling with vanilla ice-cream and a sprinkle of crunchy crumble. More bubbles.
The day had been so much fun. Just the way we like it for our special day!

Congrats
I must say I do enjoy a sparkly gift, but other than that the success of our marriages kind of fall in line. We too love our life and are still crazy for each other. Keep on loving ? A huge congrats …
