Watch those jaws!
An 'Incredable Jumping croc' Darwin to Adelaide via Dayley Waters, Tennants Creek, Warchope, Mount Ebeneezer, Alice Springs, Kings Creek, Yulara (Ayres Rock/ Ularu), Cober Pedy and Port Augusta. Basically 4500k and two weeks on the road.
Back to civilsation. I kinda expected Dawin to to a husteleing big city, hardly was a pretty much one street but hot showers and cold pints mad Pill a happy girl! Spent a few days basking in the sun as it would be my last optitunity before heading into Aussie winter before going to Kakadu National Park. Was an awsome tour and met some wicked people and crocs as part of it included bating some crocs to jump up out of the water on the 'Amazing Jumping Crocs boat' and they were certinaly nice and close! We rocked up to the campsite late and decided to sleep under the stars as apose to putting up a tent, precious dringking time would have been wastesd! So after a few 'tinnies' a few drunken attemptes to capture the amazingly clear and full stariey sky were made with some rather dubious photos in the morining. The best way to clear your head after a few beers? jump into a FREEZING cold,
Jabwya Falls, Kakadu
The boys in a rather chilly plunge pool but very beautiful, waterfall plung pool, it was soo cold fist thing in the morning. We moved on to anohter waterfall equally beautifull but wiht a nice sandy beach, life is as tough as you would imagain.
Hooked up with a group of guys, 2 of the Matt's of my tour and another Matt and his bro Rob who were heading right down the middle of Oz in a camper all joined forces (and Matt's) and got ready for the cold trip south. We bought our gear including a not to roomy 2 man tent for me and two of the Matts so a tight squeeze with the three of us, fine at first but the novelty soon wore off, and a bargin sleeping bag- all good till i realised it was a tropical weather one, not to good for the -4c we enconctred! I want my money back, no one told me it would be this cold here they never get cold in Neighbours! Dayly Waters was the first stop on our epic tour and was what seemed like the middle of nowhere, but more barronness to come. Its slightly backward in the bush to say the least
Open Road
To much excitment, all we saw for days and a few odd balls were encounted as well as a complete lack of intrest in the World Cup. One fella couldnt even work out which team was Oz when they were playing the Jap's, not even the Asian faces or colurs gave it away. After a couple of days on the road we finally hit a tourist attaction, Devils Marbles, just big round rocks supposedly place buy the Aborigonal Rainbow Serpant, but it was so exciting to finally see something many silly photos were taken with excitment.
Few more days of driving trough nothingness with a bit of bush brought us to the 'civilisation' of Alice Springs. Did as much tourist stuff as you could in the pumming, rarther backward 'city' including a joey resuce center, I swear I fell in love with Ned Kelly as he was placed in my arms in his little bag. Also a tip to the flying doctor center was muach called for after watching the old TV programme, oh dear showing my age! A pub was found for the England game, but it was almost more entertaining to watch the locals, dodgy dancing famrmers, very drunk aborginals and some very dressed up
Devils Marbles
Finally something to look at made me very excited 'shelias', a great mix.
On the road again and next tourust attraction Kings Canyon- a big canyon in the deaster, not all that impressive but a nice walk. Unfortunally it was my turn to cook that night, gotta have those fajitas, and a few problems lighting the grill left me minus my eyelashes as one of the Matts tried to get it going, hence the amount of photos with me in sunnies from then on! Thankfully a few days more driving brought us the excitment of the big rock. Ularu. Did actulaly get more impressive as we got closer to it and made the days of driving worth while. A quick walk around it warmed us up for the climb up it. My word was it steep, i clung on to the chain along the side, but the view from the top was pretty cool and certainly felt I had earnt my beers from it perticualy as we had been up at silly oclock in the cold for sunrise just to see a rock change colour. Another England game and anohter unlikley venue, the only palce to watch the game was a fanice hotel's reception. So in we trapsed
The Rock
We drove all that way to see it so had to have a piccie of it on here! at 4 in the morning, looking like tramps in attempt to keep warm.
On the road again and making some progress as we hit South Australia, basicly deaste and more nothingness. Next stop was Cober Pedy- opal land in Oz. A funny little place where everyone lives underground because of the extreams of the weahter. Vey odd sleeping 6.5 meters underground. This palce was wierd, very reminisant of Dalat, went to the big toutist attraction Big Winch, for the view over the town. It was called a scenic view, I tell you you had to see it to belive it.
So made it down south and arrived in Adelaide and decided to celebrate civilastion with a night out. What a night, they really are still slightly backward counrty and western music for a top night out Bryan Adams summer of 69 was the most recent tuneage, certasinly an interesting night. So had to test the culture again last night for the England game and were treated to more 'ozzie knowlage' of the soccer. Heading back on the road soon and looking forward to a real city as we head for Melbourne along the great ocean road.
And for anyone who hasn't alredy got my Oz no its 0420225386 so gimme a buzz 😊
