Rob and his brother Gav! In Gav's blokes shed!
Yesterday we drove from Iron Knob to Adelaide, with a stop over at Port Augusta and Port Pirie. Thats a short drive day of about 380 k's. Ha, it's funny how the perception of distance changes after these kind of trips. I'm sure once we settle in at home, we'll wonder if we can bother driving 13 k's into Wonthaggi!

It had been a very cold night and probably our final free camp for the trip. I'm quietly happy about that, the heater makes a big difference to your comfort levels now, and no power means no heater 😞 Iron Knob had kindly offered a shower at this free camp but it was a bush outdoor shower, so we said, thanks but no thanks!

We stopped for a look around and breaky at Port Augusta. It's an interesting town, with some beautiful old buildings that have suggested some wealth over the years. But it didnt appear to be overly vibrant these days though. It was bitterly cold and we saw someone living out of a box of bits, in the local park.. A sad sight.

Not too far down the track we stopped at Port Pirie. Robs brother

Gavin lives here, so we stopped in for a cuppa. It was great to catch up with Gav, he's a lovely bloke! His wife was at work unfortunately. Port Pirie is a mining town and looked pretty nice, better than Augusta. Lots of beautiful old buildings and the worlds largest lead smelter! Mark Jamar (the Russian) who plays for the Demons, came from here and Gav used to work for his Dad.

After a great visit we headed off towards Adelaide. We called in to Snowtown. If you don't know, this town is infamous for the bodies in the Bank Vault. A sad way for the town to be remembered, and it must be hard to shake that off. We were like many folk, curious enough to drive in and look at the bank building. Apparently its attached to a house and the house was sold a few years ago to a couple from Melbourne. They have said that they just see it as part of their home, and have considered putting up a memorial to the victims. They know people drive in to take photos and dont mind. They are happy that they might stay and spend some

money on the town.

Its actually the site of a huge windfarm. Over 130 turbines on about 70 acres! Looked fabulous!

We landed in Adelaide mid afternoon and are staying in a caravan park thats within just over a kilometre of the city. Its a super location. Some of the houses around us are beautiful old homes! Such a contrast to the sight seeing we've been doing recently. Its lovely. Today we walked through the beautiful botanical gardens, wow some of the trees were fabulous! We walked past the university precinct and you felt like you could have been in Oxford or some such place. Its a beautiful city, very English, very well designed. We had a really yummy (really 'bad for you') breaky in the Adelaide arcade in Rundle Mall. What a pretty arcade, much like the Block arcade in Melbourne. After that we walked about, I could have had a wonderful time shopping! It was pretty cold but we had given in and dressed appropriately!

We went to the museum and Rob had a wonderful time looking at all the displays! We shopped for a birthday present for one of the grandies, and then we

decided to see a movie. Saw 'Inside Out', it was terrific! Walked back through the gardens again and noticed Adelaide Zoo is just there! We will come back there tomorrow before heading off. Cant wait.

What a lovely city. Its really easy to get around, very pretty, cafe's galore, plenty of good shopping, parks and gardens all around and Glenelg beach, just a stones throw away. And this caravan park, which has many cabins as well as caravan sites, is an amazing location. Haven't seen this proximity in any city before! Its great.

So only 6 more nights before we call this Bago bash to an end. We are looking forward to getting home, no doubt, but will look back on this trip with really great memories!

Off to Horsham after the zoo tomorrow. Its over 400 k's drive so will be a big day, but okay.

Stay warm! We are!
