Hi everyone, sorry for the day, been busy enjoying ourselves !! well were in Port Douglas which is in Queensland. Brian gave us a lift to the airport at 03.00 am yesterday morning and we flew to Cairns which took 3 hours. I still can't get over how big this country is !! We arrived to SUN SUN SUN, oh my just fantastic !! Remember Melbourne is well into their Autumn so very cold, not that we are complaining as we are still on the other side of the world !! We were picked up from the airport by a very friendly Aussie guy, he drove us to Port Douglas which took about an hour. The journey to Port Douglas was along the coast which was just spectacular, beautiful sparkling Coral Sea and on the other side was the Rainforest, very tropical, it was just beautiful. We drove along the Four Mile Beach and arrived at Port Douglas where we took one look around and just loved it straight away, definitely our type of place!!! small little high street (cbd) with cafes and bars and restaurants, palm trees, low rise buildings. Our apartment is just lovely, it's called 'Le Cher Du
Monde', we have a swimming pool, kitchen, living room, private bathroom, balcony, it is just blinkin lovely everyone !!! We are situated right in the little high street but by 21.00 hours everyone appears to have gone to bed !! Except us!! Rob the guy who owns the place, booked us some trips which I will blog about throughout our stay here. We decided on the first night to go out on a Sunset Cruise, over the Coral Sea, even though we had practically been up all night, but have to make the most of it while we're here. Down to the Marina we went for 4.30 pm, they had a lovely little market on, I had a browse around, nice things, could have gone mad !! Controlled myself, but relief to find out they are having a Sunday market !!! On the boat we went, very niceeeeee, felt like a film star, but not dressed like one !! Rob said 'no you don't want to put a skirt on, shorts is the best thing', so fine by me, but the ladies who arrived did appear to make more of an effect than me !! Me, a right ole scruff
bag !! Well, what a great time we had, there were only 3 other couples, one from Auz, one from America and a Kiwi couple. Gotta say, this bunch seemed to be up for a party, they brought along their own booze, which you could do and it all began !! Oh yes, well by the end of the sunset cruise which incidentally we all nearly missed because we were having a right old laugh, we were like best buddies who had chartered a boat for the evening !! The American couple had us in stitches, they came out with the most funniest stories, and kept us well entertained throughout. The crew, who were just 2 girls, one from Bognor Regis of all places brought us canapies which were delicious and we had the best time ever !! So glad we did that, nearly didn't because of a huge amount of lost sleep !! but we couldnt have asked for a better bunch of people on there. Great little trip. So after our sailing, we decided to go and get a drink locally and Sue previously told us to go to the 'Iron Bar', in we go, interesting sort of
establishment, had a few more jars !! Going down very well I must say. I was drinking 'bubbles', that's what they call prossecuo at home. Lethal stuff really, goes down to well !! So one of the staff comes over and says did we want to see some 'Cane Toad Racing', well were game for anything new !! We agreed to it and he charged us 5 bucks each and then it began, the most ridiculous thing ever, basically he had a bunch of toads in a bucket which were given silly names, he got people up from the audience to participate which included me !! then you had to pick up a toad from inside the bucket, give it a kiss, oh yes, he made you kiss the toad on the lips !!! and then you put them all together and blow with one of those New Years Eve whistle's until they hop. Yep, strange or what, I guess I have done stranger things in my life !! When the guy, who was very funny, introduced us to the crowd, ' I said I felt like I was in 'Celebrity Jungle' well that started him off, he was shaking
his head, saying 'No Karol, you're not a celebrity' this is not going to make you a celebrity'. It just was the funniest thing ever and to top it all, I had the most fattest, laziest toad ever, who didn't budge an inch !! It was a great first day in Queensland.
