1YEAH what luck we have coming here on Steve Irwin Day
Today was the day in our itinary that we decided to go to the Australia Zoo.
We turned up there and there were signs saying Today is Steve Irwin Day 2008...YEAH
This was a great surprise. It meant that there were a lot more interactive things to do today to celebrate Steve Irwin.
This zoo is by far the best zoo we have ever been to.
It is very hands on, and the animals seem to be really taken care of here.
There was a show where Terri, Steve's wife, came out and did a whole demonstration of feeding a croc and explaining about them.
She was very witty and put on a good show. We also had to yell out "Crikey" for good times sake.
Her daughter, Bindi, came on stage and sang a few songs and later in the day (we missed it) she had a fashion show debuting her clothing line.
As soon as we walked into the park there were face painters there...and I had to get one.
I got a cute koala on a branch on the side of my face.
Dave didnt want to get one, even though i think he was dying to get
2its a baby aligator
a croc on his face!!
We got to go into a huge yard with kangaroos hopping all over, well there were more actually sitting around lethargically like they were fed too much from the visitors.
We both eased in close to them and gave them a little pat on the head and rub on their backs.
There were koalas all over the park in fake trees and lots of leaves for them to feast on if they every woke the heck up.
We also paid to get a photo holding a koala, which I was pretty pumped about.
All in all, this day was amazing.
The zoo teaches you a lot about how to help save animals, to respect their environment and gave you a great opportunity to get up close and personal with them.
I suggest anyone who visits this country to take the trip to this zoo. You will not be dissapointed.
