Tomatoe Picking Tomatoe Picking Tomatoe Picking

7am day 2 of work
Roughly 100km west inland of Brisbane.
We basically decided to have a 2 to 3 weeks stop in order to rest, detox and replenish our bank accounts. We intended to stay here long enough for both of us to save around $1,500 each. We calculated that would equate to around 3 weeks work if we limited our expenses. WE QUIT AFTER 3 DAYS. Christ almighty, what a crap load of work.

We basically had to crawl on our hands and knees in the middle of a damp field all day picking bloody tomatoes whilst struggling to keep up with the tracktors conveyor belt moving up the field at an irritating pace. In the end not even Kev could see the positive side of this crap. After day 1 our legs and lower backs were creaking with pain.

days 1 and 2 were miserable, the farmer was an ars*hole threatening every backpacker with the sack if we did'nt pick all the tomatoes faster!. i just felt sorry for the local

9am Day 2. Finding Motivation Hard to Come By.
guys who have to do this for a living. Day 3 was great, as the previous night we had agreed to quit, so we just took it easy and had a laugh and the odd tomatoe fight. Too much hard work for too little money, the lure of Brisbane and then Fraser island proved too much for us to stay here in Laidley (a town that can be crossed on foot in approximately ten minutes) working as slaves.

Its did serve to raise the appreciation levels for when we arrived back in Brisbane, i think you need abit of a rough patch in your life to appreciate the good things....
