Just got Saver out using the max trax. The best invention ever. There are orange tracks placed under the wheels to give traction.
Hi all. It has been a few days since the last blog as we have been so remote there has been no service. I will now be posting four blogs, one for each day Since Wednesday. This blog is for Wednesday 20th. Cape york Wednesday 20th May

Pennefather beach

Today started off an easy day. We woke up as the sun was rising. Started packing the cars and also had one last real shower before going bush. We left the Weipa caravan park at around 9am. We drove to the local Woolies supermarket to re stock and then filled up with fuel. We left Weipa at around 10am. To get to the beach camp we were looking for we needed to drive through a couple of mine leases. These are roads you can use but they are on mining lease land. The dust thrown up by the car in front of you hangs around for around 500metres so we all have to space ourselves. We got to the pennefather beach in about an hour. This is where things got interesting. Xavierand Tracey are towing a camper. We had two options. Stay on the sandy road on top of the

vegetated dunes or go down to the beach and drive on the beach. Our mistake we decided to go down to the beach and the fun started. Poor Tracey and Xavier got bogged in the sand due to the dragging of the trailer. We had to snatch him out a few times and remove sand from under his car. In the end we unhitched the trailer and put it on my Troopy. My son Paul drove my troopy out with the trailer and let me say I was very proud of both of them. Troopy and Paul and the trailer got back to the sand dune road with no incident. We continued a few Kilometres to a camp place with 5 or 6 trees and plenty of shade. This is where we plan to stay for 4 or 5 nights. It was about 2pm when we were setting up camp and had a quick lunch of bread tomatoes and cheese. Was so tasty. I set up my hammock and thought I might have a snooze. Well the kids had another idea and I ended up sharing with my granddaughter Grace and Jakim. It was hard not to let them on.

Nothing can beat a v8 turbo diesel especially with my son Paul driving.
When the sun started to go down we went to the shore, remembering there are crocodiles around, and Matthew and Xavier started to fish. We decided we would eat what they caught. They caught 4 fish. 3 mackerel and one queen fish. The fish were very tasty. The flies were also very moderate. I did not put on any spray except a little on my feet. The night was quite cool but very humid. It was strange being sweaty and cold at the same time. The sun setting was just not to be missed.

We were joined early in the night by very large ants. Luckily they were not aggressive and more interested in our fish catch of the day. Have a close look at their size.
