The camper van called fuzzy for some reason. The back seat was cunningly constructed of wood with our backpacks as a back-rest and pillows as cushions... pure class!
Well after being here for almost a month now we have eventually actually done some travelling. The 5 hour journey from Cairns to Townsville was going to cost us about 40 squid each on the bus. However a few days before we planned to leave, we met two German girls who owned a camper van... very handy. It is possibly the worst mode of transport I had ever done but it was only going to cost 8 pounds each in petrol money- a bargain. So we set of at 10am from the youth hostel in Cairns, heading south for Townsville, it is the next big town down the coast and I have relatives there so we plan to spend about a week here. After a splendid journey with the Germans we were dropped off on the Townsville promenade at 3pm next to the harbour and a park... first impressions were promising as it turned out it was Australia day and so everyone was already on the lash with big groups of bar crawls going round wrapped in Aussie flags and covered in face paint. We asked one drunken aussie for help finding a youth hostel which was a bit fruitless seeing

as he thought that I was foreign and pretended he didn't know what a youth hostel was. Anyways 20 minutes later and we were settled into one right on the sea front (ish) and we went for a look around... the place is very similar to Cairns with a long promemade with loads to do for kids and barbeques along it. However there are also beaches here and 3 different sets of stinger nets to swim in. It took us about half an hour to walk down the sea front with a stop off in a salt water rock pool thats like a swimming pool but pumps water in and out from the sea and is just like a hot bath. On the way back we purchased a cheeky crate of Australia's finest lager (a nice 30 pack) and planned to have a BBQ at the hostel, unfortunately all the supermarkets were shut with it being a public holiday so we settled for something just as Australia... a meal from Subway.
Night time and we decided to see what delights there were in Townsville. It is less of a touristy place and so unlike Cairns all of the pubs and

bars are on one street next to the river that runs through the city. There are only 10-12 bars so we did them all and ended up in a nightclub called the 'Bank' that surprisingly used to be a bank. It was a good night and by the looks of it the next day, everyone had had the same because no one was in town.
On Sunday we got a lift from Kim (2nd cousin in law once removed, or something like that) to stay at the relatives for a few days. We didn't go straight to their house but went to a local resevoir for a bit of water skiing.. it was brilliant again and obviously I was amazing at it and Tim manged to achieve a stand up on one of the first go's although may have suffered some groin strain with a 'splits' manoeuvre. The it was onto the blow up 'tube' behind the boat for some ridiculous riding and amusing fallings off. Their house is nice and it has got a pool, table tennis and a pool table... all you could want. I'm going to use one of them now but can't decide which.

thing... Tim got introduced to the art of Cane Toad Golf last night. It doesn't leave much to the imagination and if you think you know what I mean then you're right!
(p.s. The video on 'Atherton Again' is working now... too watch it just click the viseo icon when looking at the blog- entitled 'malanda falls')
