Something we've been noticing is that all shopping carts in Australia have FOUR rotating wheels. Weird...
On Friday, March 6th, we decided to take the bus from Mudgeeraba to Surfers Paradise. We first stopped at the huge mall in Surfers, called Pacific Fair. Here, we had lunch and did a bit of shopping. Then, we headed to the beach where I had my very first Aussie surf lesson! (yay!) The lesson was two hours and I was put into a group of about ten. We were all brand new to surfing. We were taught first how to ‘catch a wave’ and then how to stand up on the surfboards. The surfboards we were given were massive, going way over my head. Maybe 8 feet long. This is because the shorter the board, the better the surfer you need to be. So, beginners get the longest boards. I loved my lesson! It was so much fun. I felt like an Aussie (an Aussie who’s bad at surfing). Even just riding the waves on your belly is very fun. I think I only managed to stand up a couple of times, and then I would immediately fall over. But I think after a couple more days of practice, I would probably get the hang of it. Kevin watched from

the beach and got some pretty hilarious videos of me falling over. I even got a ‘surfing injury’, which is cool. I scraped my side on the sand when I took one hard fall off the board. Made me feel tough. LOL
After my lesson, Kev and I headed to the casino. Kevin, if you didn’t know, likes to play Roulette. That day, he managed to stay even and not lose money. (Bravo!) We then took the bus back to Mudgeeraba.

That night Kevin and I tried watching the movie Crackerjack. It’s an Aussie movie that Graham and Lorna had suggested we see while in the country. It’s all about lawn-bowling! For all of you who don’t know, lawn-bowling (or bowls, as they call it here) is extremely popular here in Australia. Well, for the older community. Lol Kevin made the comparison that it’s a lot like curling, except outdoors. You’ve got two teams, a skip telling you where to put the ball. The closest to the white ball (instead of the centre ring) gets the points. It was a really funny movie, but I was so tired from my surfing lesson that I ended up falling asleep, and

we’d have to watch it another night. lol

Saturday was a quiet day. We used it to catch up on laundry, and look around the town some more. We did groceries and just relaxed by watching tv. That night Kevin went over the casino in Surfers Paradise again, but I wasn’t feeling up to it and rested back in Mudgeeraba.

The view I got to see while on the beach. Weird... That guy in the bottom left looks like me, doesn't he? Except a little more muscular. lol

Australia is supposedly one of the driest countries on Earth. So rain catchers like this are quite common place.
