Well we finally slipped of out of Victoria point after having had several leaving drinks with friends, we spent a day at a music Muster in Mudgeeraba followed by a dinner with friends. We headed for Warwick which is only 200kms away,a place we had been before so only used it as a staging post great town.Had a bit of a scare with the car overheating going up Cunningham Gap a long climb at 1-8 no issues since, will have it checked at the next Mitsubishi dealer.
Next stop Goondiwindi a small outback town, this is wheat and grain country also grows cotton which is sought after all over the world. The town borders on NSW and has a famous old bridge dating back to the late 1800's which crosses the boarder. For those interested in horse racing the town is also famous for producing the Gunndiwindi Grey a famous race horse commememorated in a statue in the town.Bought a couple of steaks from the local butcher, cooked to perfection by yours truly.A great little town.
We moved on to a famous pub with free camping, The Nindigully Pub famous for several reasons,it holds the longest liquor licence in QLD, going back
Woodcutters Pub
With friends the w/e before we set of to 1888, attracts visitors at new year for an out back party, and serves a 2.5kg burger which will serve one or six people. We had the Barra This is an iconic outback pub.
Next day to St George a town with a long history, the mighty Balonne river runs along side which has flooded many time over the years. There is a memorial to two of its hero's on the banks of the river along the river walk. Both of the people recognised in the memorial are world war two pilots one being the only known Aboriginal pilot in the war.We took the opportunity to take a river cruise and learn about the river and it's important s to the town and region
And so the journey begins.
