Hi all, this is the second day of our travel up to Fraser Island. We worked on the basis that we would travel the 1,900kms in two days. yesterday was a killer but today was easier As we only had to do 750kms. We left Narrabri in the dark at 6 am. I wasn't sure about this as we were likely to hit, literally a bunch of kangaroos on the road. Surprisingly we did not see one live. We saw quite a few dead Roos and even pigs. Pigs are pests out here and for them to be hit by cars means there must be a lot around. Anyway the road kill was very small compared to what we had seen at Cape York last year. We still saw quite a few Hawks flying around the roads.
The number of towns we went through was more than double the previous day particularly as we got closer to the coast.
We arrived at our destination at 4.15pm which was good as we needed to camp for the night. The whole landscape changed as we drove closer to the coast. Lots more greenery and forests. Interestingly we didn't see the ocean
until we were right in the town of Rainbow beach As we were engulfed in forest.
Morning tea was at Maccas in Goondiwindi and lunch at Kingaroy. We are definitely eating too much. Can't wait to get onto Fraser island so we can get to camping food.
Interestingly found a small sweet and savoury bakery in Kingaroy who sold the lad fashions cream buns. Lisa and I could not rest and we bought one each.
Kids kept themselves entertained using iPads and we had the normal pee brake on the side of the road ( the kids not the adults)
Dinner was at the local life saving club after the kids had a good swim in the local pool. i didn't order dinner but agreed to have an icecream. Well that was just too too much food. the life saving club had a DVD on showing how the cars were drowned in the surf on Fraser Island. Let's make sure that does not happen to us.
The following is the kids view of today
Olivia's pillow blew up in the car: Grace and Tony peed near the car :We got Cotten from the Cotten fields:We
saw minions made out of hay:We saw old old old cars :And also a motor bike stuck in a tree:We saw crazy Queensland drivers almost kill us :Two boys were annoying Cohen and Kaiden in the pool:Nannu kept on annoying us on the CB/UHF: A man kept on giving out gift vouchers at dinner "Iga gift vouchers": We walked to dinner at rainbow beach: We also setup camp. (As written by Cohen).
Tomorrow is the big day. We get out of this van park by 10 am. Fill up with water and diesel and then lower the tyre pressures on the 4 Wheel drives and head of the Iskip Point to get on the ferry. Big day ahead.
