As far as work this week went, I worked on Calypso from Monday to Thursday and luckily enough, I got to take to certified divers those 4 days. The weather conditions weren't very good and we had about 30 knots of wind all those days, which meant a lot of sea sick people puking their guts out (and we had a full boat all 4 days; about 85 people). In all, work wasn't that bad, but it was very tiring doing 3 dives everyday in those conditions. Of all the dives I did, I especially enjoyed diving in the site called "Two Tone", because of the varied scenery and because it has some very strong currents in some places which gives it an extra challenge. In one of the dives there, I saw the resident grey reef shark swimming around which is always great to see.
Monday evening after getting back home, I took a shower and went to bed, skipping dinner and all; finally a good night's sleep after a very busy non-stop weekend.
Tuesday evening was somewhat similar, getting back home, having dinner and watching a movie, pretty quite and still in "recovery
mode".
Wednesday, we celebrated Giselle's birthday (4th of July) after work in her house. We were 7 in all: Giselle, Bruce, Melina, Anthony, Jessie, Renee (an Australian - Chinese dive instructor who recently started working in Calypso) and I. We had a few drinks in the house, sang happy birthday and had some of Melina's chocolate-pear cake. Then we headed down to 4 Mile beach. The tide was high, so there wasn't much of the beach left and we stayed close to the beach entrance. Giselle brought fire pois (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poi_%!p(MISSING)erformance_art%!<(MISSING)/a>) and we all gave it a go; a lot of fun and we took some really good photos; if you're a beginner, you still manage to do something with them. Bruce, Giselle and Melina had done it before and put on a spectacular show. The rest of us did what we could. Jessie also wanted to celebrate 4th of July and wanted to - quote: "blow shit up" -, so she showed us a few "home made bombs" made out of sparklers (more noise makers than anything, but in a big quantity they can blow up a mailbox apparently). We stayed in the beach for a few hours and about 11:30pm we all went bak home.
Thursday evening I set up my TRX suspension trainer; a very versatile device used for physical training which I've been carrying around (http://www.trxtraining.com/). I set it under a porch outside the house, just to try it out after several months of not using it (I got it back with my backpack in Brisbane a few days earlier). All the training guides I had were lost with my iphone, so I had to start downloading training sessions again. I didn't do much, I was too tired after 4 days of diving 3 times a day, but left it ready to start training the next day. After that I worked on the blog and watched a movie.
Friday I had the day off and in the afternoon I went to the center of Port Douglas to an accountant office (needed to ask a few questions about taxes), then to the post office to send a couple of postcards Eduardo Moreno had given me to send to his girlfriend and then to a bicycle shop to buy one. So far I had been using my neighbor's bike, but
it's a cruise bike with no gears, it has handles like a chopper and it's very slow. It did the job for a while, but I wanted a mountain bike. I couldn't find any second-hand ones, so I bought a new one that wasn't so expensive.
In the evening I had my first TRX session in a long time and it was good to get back in training again. I also practiced with some training pois; I'm going to become a fire master. Then, I had dinner, watched a movie and because I had another day off on Saturday, I wrote on the blog until about 2am and went to sleep.
