Well we wandered around town, sort of like a getting to know you before all the shops shut on Saturday, not to reopen again until Monday - including the bakery! Anyway the tyre place said our tyre wont be in before Wednesday round 9am’ish. Got a few groceries and went back to camper for lunch and some homework by the kids. Went into the heated spa around 4pm, so understandably cold when it was time to get out. It was nice to have mobile phone service to touch base with home.
Sunday had pancakes and poetry at the caravan park then went to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame. Lots and lots to read, with poor lighting to read by. We felt it a bit over rated, more about the pioneers than the shearers. Alex got himself a whip, reduced from $185 to $100, otherwise we wouldn’t have let him buy it. Went to the Art & Craft Gallery - a CWA effort unfortunately. Got some more homework done, before hitting the swimming pool and spa again. Met 2 other Ulty’s in the park. One only had a few months, 2nd hand and heading for the Bungles. The other live near
Avro plane
1st plane that Qantas bought. Townsville and offered us to set up on their cattle farm whilst passing through Townsville. We exchanged hints and ideas on the Ulty.
Monday went to the Station Store and enquired about the Cobb & Co ride - $48 per adult. We felt too expensive, so went to bank and hardware store, bread from bakery and back to read, spa and easy 2 min noodles for tea.
Finally the Qantas Museum - different tours available at different prices. We did the main museum and the secrets of the 747. A decommissioned 747 that brought the Bali Bomb victims home before having holes cut in the shell and replaced with Perspex so the public can view it. Got to see all the electrics, black box - which is in the rear of the plane, inflatable rescue slide, shell, hostess area, cockpit and the only time we would sit in first class. It was interesting to see the original Avro plan that started Qantas off, together with replicas of the other planes along the way.
You get to met many people from different walks of life some you click with, others you don’t, but they all have a different
Rolls Royce Engine
This really shows how big it is!! story and hints about what is good to see. The notebook has lots of notes about the Cape and the way there. Was given the website to join (no cost) to allow cheaper tickets to the theme parks. Already joined, will just have to print out the tickets when we buy them.
Finally ready to leave Longreach, 9.30am and the tyre not in. Filled in time, groceries, trinkets and a very early lunch at the bakery. At the tyre place at 12.30pm to find out after several phone calls the tyre had not even left Brisbane. I was in tears. They hunted around to see what they could find - by this stage we would take anything. Dark and dusty was a Cooper tyre that we would have taken on Friday. Alas, he didn’t look and it wasn’t on his computer.
