Reception at Kookaburras
Me not doing much, and dave on a mission Arrived to Hervey Bay to do our fraser Island trip... was very excited!!! Rocked up to get our bus to the hostel and rolf was there to pick us up, saw that they needed a receptionist and i decided i was gonna be hanging out in hervey bay for a few weeks.
The fraser trip was cool, although we coulda had a better group, ben who went with us was a breath of fresh air.... frank spencer you know who ur!!!
So when i got back from fraser i started to work... which is never good, but to be fair the work wasnt difficult and very laid back.. i knew id be able to chill here easily for a while. Its not a very happening place, oh but the fun we had on our last night back from fraser, myself, james ben and the two german girls, we got home with the police that night cus we didnt know how to get back to the hostel. The nice friendly... extremely bored police man decide to also breathalise us, needless to say we all failed miserably lol...
Most people just pass through while visiting fraser or another popular thing
Tail splash
Every whales tail is different, its like a human finger print... researchers use the markings to identify each one. im impressed!! to do was whale watching. The whales come into hervey bay every year while migrating between july and october, so loadsa people were out for a bit of humpback action. Obviously it woulda been rude not to go and see these amazing creatures, and i did three times in fact.
The first whale watching, accompanied with emma and diane, was truly amazing. We travelled out beyond fraser island from hervey bay. We approached two whales who put on a bit of a show, but soon got bored. Most of the day was spent with a yearling(year old whos just recently on his own), Barney. Was def gonna do it again.
Second time whale watching, was on a sailing boat "on the edge", this boat was really cool (catamaran), it was a scorching day so my luck was in, the whales didnt come too close to the boat.. but maybe they didnt like red??? ne how it was a great day, myself emma, james and paul went out. few funny memories like the guy who kept using big words but didnt make sense... a fav. of mine was when the whales werent coming up to our boat...
Helping out
Hoisting the sails.. see stupid guy with me. stupid guy " oh the whales are being so evasive" lol.... me and emma had a good laf at him... sorry bout the hacky sack!
Third time out was a dawn cruise (6.30 am), on a boat called blue horizon. This boat was awesome... very modern, had a great bathroom, coffee machine with really good coffee... thats me behind the wheel of blue horizon in the photo! ne how this was probably my best whale watching experience.. and at this stage im a bit of an expert!!!! we arrived out and immediately we encountered about 8 pods (a term for whales, singularly also strangely enough)... although the know all, millionaire backpacker chef told me all the tour guides were wrong and it was a collective term lol!!! sure dereck!
On this occassion we got to see lots of behaviour, first they were feeding and afterwards the calfs were breaching.. this was an amazing thing to see!! then we got to see them have a nap after all the fun.. the calf slept on its mums nose on the surface of the water.... so sweet!!
Myself and amy went on this trip and afterwards had a
Look what i did
The finished result! trip to 'reef world'... this sounding really exciting for us but in reality it was crap!!! however we didnt have to pay so wat do u want for nothing..... the place itself seemed really old, the tanks were dull, even though there were some beautiful fish!! we could pet the turtles though and get caged in with the sharks.. i wouldnt dreamed of doing this here as the cages looked as old as everything else.. the paresthetic leg they used as a prop was very sick/amusing also???
I also went to fraser again on a guided tour which was really informative, like how it got its name and the aboriginakl tribe that hailed from there, (the batchella) apparently were up to 2 metres tall!!!!! met zoe and rich there, really nice guys, hope to meet up again.
Working in the hostel has def been an experience, some people want u to do everything for them, i really dont know how they manage travelling around, and then there are the ones who haven't got good english lol.... ive actually said a few times 'u dont know what im saying do u?' and they have nodded and said aha!!!! oh
paddy the cowboy
This guy informed me he had thousands of beef cattle which he supplied to mcdoanlds, acres of land etc.. what girl wouldnt be impressed lol how funny. nehow met some really cool guys here, andi, dave, denise james, emer, emma, amy wont be forgotten.
Last weekend in hervey bay and the rodeo was in town... such luck. me and dave started having a few drinks after work. tiger the cat got a little dip that day lol.... fat lazy cat, im surprised he could swim! got to the rodeo just as it was kicking off. while approaching two men on horseback where to enter, they took of their hats to answer me lol. already proving to be what id imagined it to be. I started greeting people wid 'howdy partner'.. and also singing cotton eyed joe.. also shouting yeeha a lot! I was amusing myself but i was embarrasing dave lol
got to meet loadsa cowboys.. hill bilies etc.. lots of really down to earth people tho... even got myself a go on the 'kids only' bouncy slide lol.. lotsa fun when drunk! the night ended with the 'after party' at the bay side tavern.
Big love Hervey Bay had a great time!!!!
