Rainbow beach
Eating bush tucker on our walk Hiya guys - well loads to tell once again!! From Noosa we traveled to Rainbow beach for a night. As soon as we got here we went out for a bush walk with the hostel owner. We had bush tucker (eating the nectar from the trees (just like honey), eating some flowers (sorta tasted like lettuce). Walked through the bush until we reached the base of the sand dune (sand blow), and man was it a trek up it, it didnt feel like u were moving up the dune as your feet kept sinking, it was worth it though for the view it was gorgeous!! He then told us a bit of history and geology of the place and frasier - very interesting - he was a cool tour guide!! Then he showed us 7 different colours of the sands that are at rainbow beach (there are 74 in total). Headed back to the hostel, had scrummy pizza and cocktails (this may be becoming our main source of food - hehe only kidding we are doing very well). The next morning we went and fed patch the dolphin!! And then sat on the beach killing time and played cards before the
bus picked us up!! From here we then came to hervey bay to do frasier island. We had a wicked time, we met some people before the trip out so we could actually choose to go with them to frasier in a group which was cool!! For dinner we had all yopu could eat pizza, and a cockrpach ran across one of the pizzas - yummy!! We headed out early on fri morning - did shopping, packed up the van and headed out to frasier on the barge!! On the barge we saw some dolphins swimming passed us.
I thought the hostel would prepare you more than they did to help you whilst on the island, but ur just left to ur own devices which was cool!! So off we went, man was the drive bumpy as hell - talk about flying off ur seats!! So we travelled through the bush heading towards eastern beach, where you drive along the beach - driving through all creeks running down - a nice little shower for the passengers in the back!! We headed upto indian head (big rock) and camped below there for the night. Set up all our tents, cooked
the majority of our dinner (we had james thank god - who cooked for us- now renamed as CHEF - he is cooking us chilli con carne tonight - get in there), so our camp food was hot dogs, mash and asparagus, we had only got half way through our food, when these huge black clowds came rolling in fast and it rained, oh yes we had a storm! we had to grab all our stuff and run into the back of the van and sat in there for about 45 minutes. The storm was wicked, great lightning and rain and thunder. A bloke from the next tent said we could go in there outta the rain for a bit if we wanted so thats wat we did - we all trundled in there for a drink and chat - there was 8 of us crowding into their tent!! But the rain eased off and we went to our tents for a wonderful night sleep (errr NOT) our tents leaked so i was sleeping on a puddle!! didnt get much sleep. Looking back on it it was quite funny!! Next morning we were up at 5.45am to get packed up
and set off (we had to travel by beach in between certain times due to tides) We headed upto Waddy point had brekkie and then headed down to the champagne pools for a paddle, then set off to indian head to walk up and look out, here we saw a dolphin catching his fish!! We then headed back down the beach to camp at lake Wabby entrance, i had a go at driving - it was so fun - me and ange were the only ones that nearly rolled the van ooppps - well we didnt realise there was a steep step down, it was great fun though. We had spag bol for grub and it didnt rain woohoo!! Only on this night we were invaded by DINGOES. We were all sat in the van drinking and chatting, but we had left our food out so we had room in the van and we left the door open to keep watch. Gill suddenly called out "shut the door theres a dingoe", so i shut the door. There was also another dingoe at the front of the car, we had to shout out to one of the lads cos he had
just gone into the tent! We watched this dingoe roam around and then he tried to run off with the the box of beers but we scared him off, he still kepty roaming around and coming in closer, so Duncan just revved the engine really load and long and then he run off. So we shuvved all the food back in the van and sat for a while waiting, the boys checked the coast was clear. After awhile the other girls wanted to go to bed so we had to get all the food out again so they could get outta the van, duncan sorted this out while i kept an eye out with the torch for the dingoes. Literally within 30 secs of the food being out, i saw these two pairs of green eyes running from across the field towards us (at this point all the food was still out and so was duncan). I shouted "the dingoes are coming", the dingoes are coming"!! so he just chucked everything back in the van and ran round the front!! it was actually really freaky just watching then run across the field with their eyes glowing from the torch light!!
They got scared away by the revving again!! it was our own fault we shouldnt have left the food out!! Peeing outside after this was scary so me and ange faced opposite directions to check for dingoes approaching - it was so funnny!! This night we had no rain so slept so well, we got up early for the sunrise which was absolutely gorgeous!! Then we all packed up and headed out again, we went to Lake Wabby, which is on a huge sand-dune, so had a paddle in here and watched an eagle grab his food from the lake - that was cool to watch. From here we went to central station which was in the rainforesty bit - cool setting to have brekkie, then headed onto lake Mckenzie which was gorgeous - beautiful clear aquamarine water and white sandy beaches. We went for a swim here!! Me and ange walked round the lake and saw another dingo that was just trotting along on the beach quite happily - not paying attention to any of us, and as we walked back this other dingo walkd just across in front of us!! In daylight they didnt seem so scary but
at night it was really freaky!! From here we headed back to Kingfisher bay to get on the barge back. so sad cos it was so cool. Even though it rained i think it made the trip better because it was so funny and we did enjoy it cos we just mucked around!! We were lucky - we had a storm night and a dingoe night we certainly were entertained!! From here we went back to palace hostel in hervey bay. vegged out on more pizza, and chilled out on the couches!!
lotsa love fgp
