After catching yet another flight, we arrived in Brisbane safe and sound. We asked around for the cheapest way to get to the city and finally ended up getting a cab. We settled into our hostel and we were soon heading out to meet Joe and Russell again for a few beers... we went to a bar called the Mustang Bar, but soon found ourselves back at the hostel as Gary was turned away for wearing flip flops... I suppose we were just so used to all the laid back beachy places that we have been too. Once we finally got in the bar we met Joe and Russ - Chris McCallister was also with them!! Ended up being a funny night with Chris falling asleep and being chucked out for having too many beers.
The next day we went to see the sights of Brisbane - what there is of them. We walked around Queen Street and then headed to Southbank. At southbank they have a man-made beach, which is quite nice, they also have alot of nice bars and restaurants. We headed back down there in the evening and went to the cinema to watch 'Wild Hogs'
The Boys!!
Look at the state of Chris..hehe!! it was a very funny film...
The next day we went to Australia Zoo, this is Steve Irwins Zoo. It is very sad seeing all the memorials to him it is hard to believe that such an icon is dead. The zoo was fantastic - we got to hold Koala's, baby Aligator's and play with Kangaroo's... but the main attraction is the crocodiles. After a long day at the zoo we headed back and brought some pasta - master chef Gary then made us dinner. We was soon tucked up in bed as we had to be up at 5.30am for our Fraser Island trip.
We arrived at the transit centre at 6.30am and waited for our tour to begin - we were looking around the departure lounge and were thinking that alot of the people looked a little boring!! But it would turn out that everyone was really nice and definetly made our trip. Our tour guides name was Brendon and he was really cool - a real life surfer dude (who Mel formed a slight crush on). Our first stop was Rainbow Beach, where we got a sandwich and then headed across to Fraser Island on the
ferry. Once reaching Fraser Island we headed up the 75 mile beach - no lie!! all you could see was beach upon beach upon beach. It was a very funny ride or should we say bumpy ride, you can see why only 4x4 vehicles are allowed on the island. We stopped up to take a walk through the rainforest, which was very interesting - we even got to drink natural water from the forest. We then stopped off at Lake McKenzie, where we got to swim in this beautiful lake. You could even drink the water as you were swimming. We then headed to our resort 'Kingfisher Bay' we threw our bags in our room and then headed to the jetti to watch the sunset, after which, we headed to the Maheno restaurant with 7 other people from our tour. We had an amazing buffet meal, our best so far in Oz, but it was quite expensive. We were up early the next morning for breakfast and we were soon back on the road - or should we say sand track!! Fraser Island is the biggest sand island in the world and has no roads - only in the resorts.
Our first stop was Lake Wabby. We stopped at the lookout point, where we got to look out across the lake - the words wow come to mind! The view of the lake was amazing - it is surrounded by rainforest on one side and sand dunes on the other. We made our way down to the lake, where we had some time to go for a swim. We then had to walk across the sand dunes to meet our tour guide - we only had to walk about 1200 metres, but you get a taste of what it would be like to walk through the Sahara Dessert - or not!! Next stop was Eli Creek. Crystal clear waters and a strong current meant that you could lay back and let the currents carry you down the creek, but it was very cold. We then headed for lunch and then up to the Indian Heads. We had to climb up the rocks to get to the top of the cliff, but when we did - it was well worth it! The views of the beach + rainforest was amazing. Gary Managed to get right to the edge of the cliff
with our tour guide and they got to see a shark in the water... Along with quite a few stingrays!! We then headed to the Champagne Pools, Its quite hard to explain but the picture should give you a good idea... we got to have a swim and we also got to lay on our own bit of private beach. Gary thought it would be a good idea to write our names in the sand - how childish!! On the way back we stooped off at the shipwreck - the S.S Maheno! This was pretty cool and a good way to finish our day. We had seen some amazing sights and probably wont ever see anything like this again. In the evening we managed to sneak in for a free meal at the Dingo Bar and then stayed for a few drinks, with our tour guide. We had free time in the morning to have a look around the resort so we headed to the pool but soon gave up and we were being attacked by flies. We have counted and Mel has over 30 bites on her body - she has a new disease which is called 'Nat Pox'
A form of chicken pox - well this is what doctor Bidwell has diagnosed!! On our back to Brisbane, we drove down Rainbow Beach, we stopped at the end of the beach, where our tour guide went for a surf - we watched him from the top of the rocks! The views down the beach were sensational. Before hitting the highway, we stopped off at a grassy area, where we got to see some wild Kangaroo's. We now knew that this was the end of our tour and were truly gutted - it had been a brilliant 3 days. In the evening we met up with Helen Stone for a drink, we exchanged our traveller stories and then headed back to our hostel as all the bars & clubs closed at 12pm as it was Good Friday.
The next day we headed to Noosa, we had 3 days left in Brisbane, but felt as we had the chance we might aswell see some where else! Noosa was highly recommended & failed to disappoint. It was a beautiful little town, with a stunning beach. It was quite unfortunate that we picked to go here on Good Friday as nothing was
open in the evening! If you wanted to buy alcohol, you had to buy a meal aswell - this meant that only restaurants were open so we bought some soft drinks and chocolate and went back to our room, where we got some well deserved sleep. We are now heading to Surfers Paradise... Let's hope that it is paradise!!!
