Sunday 24th July Cape York - To The Tip!
Not your usual suburban Sunday trip to The Tip to offload some household cast-offs, but to the Tip of Australia, Cape York. First stop on the road was the Croc Tent, a facility with an interesting history, run by an enterprising family. They have lots of info about the Cape which they’re happy to share – also some off-beat souvenirs to buy if you want! The Croc Tent is only 17kms from The Tip, but it took us almost an hour to get there as the road beyond this point is quite rough. Also we stopped for lots of photos! Having reached the beach, we had to wade a bit and clamber over rocks to get to the Tip – there were many people there who you’d never have expected to make it that far (some elderly, some with walking sticks, motorcyclists in full bush-bashing gear carrying helmets – they must have been so hot) but the allure of standing on the northernmost point of the continent is strong! Amazingly there was Telstra phone coverage there, so we called a few people just to tell them where we were. All around
us others were doing the same.
