Hi All!
Well its been a while since I last updated so just hopefully I won't have missed anything out! Apart from working quite a bit we have managed to get in a couple of trips which have been brilliant. Our first trip was a couple of weeks ago and we went on a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef to go scuba diving. We set off around 8am and the journey to the reef was brilliant and we very luckily had great weather, when we finally arrived at the reef Stacey and I were on the first group to go in. It was really choppy when we were getting into the water which did at first put me off, we were hanging onto this submerged ladder in the water and had to show the instructors that you were able to do the tasks you were shown in training before you could go down. After being thrown into the boat for what seemed like ages we were finally taken down. I must admit that on the first dive we did i was not that impressed, the visibility wasn't great and the reef wasnt half as colourful as i had
imagined. We decided to do a 2nd dive later on that day as they were offering it at a discounted rate after they reassured us the 2nd outer reef was better. We were so glad that we decided to do it, the visibility was clearer and the reef so much more colourful, we also got to see Nemo (clown fish) and it was pretty amazing! No sharks or turtles though! It really was a great day and for 2 dives, snorkelling, lunch, wine and cheese it was around $160 which we were pleased with.
In between that time and our next trip we have been working quite a lot of hours at the hotel which has been good for the money. The only bad thing is being in work and looking out the window and it being glorious weather outside, it makes you want to chill on the beach all the time! A problem that you never have to experience living in
Manchester!!! ;-) We have met quite a few people from working at the hotel and you do get to know people from living here easily as its quite small. We have finally sussed out were all the
241 drinks offers are (sunday nights are the best -down at Pier bar, bellavista and over at Vibe!) in the hope that we can save some money that way! We still seem to be going through it pretty quickly so trying watch the pennies!.
Our next trip that we went on was last weekend and we decided to go over to Cape Trib/ Daintree which was amazing! Ryan who is one of the guys we have become friends with drove over and it took just over a couple of hours and it was a great drive, all up the coast and then through the rainforest. We stayed at the Cape Tribulation beach house which we paid $36.00 each for and we had a 3 bedroom cabin. It was pretty basic but we it was right in the rainforest and just a few steps from the beach. The beaches were just great and we chilled out there for the first day whilst Ryan tried to climb for coconuts (unsucessfully) and went exploring. That night we headed down to the bar area which was pretty quiet and we got chatting to some other backpackers over some goon. As it was pretty
quiet we decided that we should head over to the nearest resort which is called PK's and started off with our torches and bottle of wine. It was the best midnight walk I have ever done, being a protected site there is hardly any pollution so the sky was littered with stars, literally hundreds of them and it was just beautiful! It was also the longest walk i have ever taken for one drink (they were pretty much closing up when we arrived!). It ended up taking over an hr each way but thats only an estimate and could of been longer! Definatley worth it though.
The next day we decided to drive up the road to investigate some water holes we had been told about. I was slightly worried about crocs but as we were walking upstream we were told they dont go up there so we continued! We eventually found the most amazing spot to swim in and the water was so clear, we were sat there with fish swimming round our feet and the sunshine coming through the rainforest and it was paradise and only wish we had spent a few more days there. After that
we decided to head back to the beach for snoozing and reading of books. God sundays in Oz are horrible!!!! We headed back home and planned to spend it in with a pizza and then a group of people we work with had decided to go out for drinks so it would of course of been rude not to join them. That coupled with the fact that my shift at work the next day had been cancelled so it was almost a sign to go out!!!! Ended up having a great night - sunday nights are definatley the best here!
So next on the agenda is sky diving at Mission Beach which I am excited and terrified about in equal measure! We are also hoping to visit Kuranda and Fitzroy Island so lots to look forward too! We are planning to leave Cairns at the beginning of December and head down the coast. Ryan is from Brisbane and heading back that way at the start of dec so we are jumping in and will be stopping off to see the Whitsundays along the way which I cannot wait to see!
Anyways im sure there is more that I
have missed but the rest of it is probably all drunken nights!!! Hope you are all well and lots of love!
