Lake Wabbi on Fraser Island Hello all from a very hot and sunny Australia! Quite jealous of all the stories of Christmassy fun in the snow but I suppose we're not too hard done by over here. Struggling to feel the xmas vibe even with all the tacky tinsel and Christmas songs but we're trying our best! Currently settled in Brisbane but heading down tomorrow to Byron Bay so the festivities can start.
After our last blog we travelled from Airlie Beach down to Hervey Bay where we'd be spent a couple of chilled out days before getting a boat over to Fraser Island. Here we spent 3 days on a 4x4 self-drive tour on the island. There were about 40 of us in our group who travelled in convoy around the island and set up camp etc together which was pretty amazing. Our truck with 5 Brits, 3 Swedes and a couple of Austrians decided to make EU connections stronger by singing our National Anthems along with the odd festive tune. We visited some fantastic fresh water lakes and had a lot of fun trying to get the monster truck up some very large and precarious sand dunes! We spent the night cooking loads

The Brits abroad of food then having plenty of drinking games on the beach. Had to watch out for the dingoes (wild dogs) though who were very keen on stealing anything and everything from camp!
Once we got back from our island adventures we made our way down to Noosa after spending a night in the pretty dull Rainbow Beach. Noosa is a nice little beach town that is very afluent with a lot of yachts etc around the place. We decided we'd try a spot of fishing the day after we arrived so booked a boat and with beers in hand we took to the river like seasoned pros. There was 7 of us in total on the boat and we spent all day on the water and managed to catch 2 small fish between us all. The loud music, jumping in the river and general lack of fishing knowledge probably didn't help our chances. That night we celebrated in style by having a session on the goon in a local park and reminiscing about how close we were to catching a great white. The next day we jumped on a bus to visit Sir Steve Irwin's zoo just down the

Wreck heads at a wreck road. We were expecting a huge zoo with a tonne of exciting animals but in the end it was pretty poor to be honest. Once you've seen one croc not moving very much, you've seen them all. We spent most of the day just taking comedy pics because most of the animals were either asleep or just not on show!
The next day we headed south once more to Brisbane to meet up with a load of lads we've met along the way and who we'll be spending our Christmas with. For the first time in months we donned shirts, jeans and shoes to venture into the city for a night out. Felt pretty strange but had a quality night that didn't end until the early hours of the morning. A few hours later I'd arranged to meet up with a family friend who lives on the outskirts of Brissy (that's what cool people call it) and we got a bit of a guided tour around the city. The weather was pretty pants but the city is really impressive and we both soon got over our hangovers to enjoy the sights and sounds. That night we all decided it'd
be a good idea to venture to the huge casino in the middle of the city. A couple of hours later we were all very much not in the luck and we cut our (rather substantial) losses and headed to bed! Next day and we had been invited back to our new tour guide's house for a spot of Christmas dinner and festive cheer! Had a really good day enjoying the family atmosphere which makes a pleasent change from the usual 8 bed dorms we've been used to!
Tomorrow we set off for Byron where we'll be setting up our newly purchased tents and getting as festive as possible. It's going to be pretty uncomfortable and hot but will definitely be one to remember!
We hope everyone has a fantastic Chrimbo and Santa brings you everything you asked for (Santa is bringing us an internet transfer of money this year - result). We'll attempt to get our festive snaps up before the new decade arrives!
Take care.
