Dear Grace and Mag,
Been to couple of places since my last entry in Sydney but a couple of places I just passed through.
First I stopped in Byron Bay for 3 nights where I was still in the state of New South Wales not Queensland. It's a small little town where a lot of people go for surfing and chilling on the beach and going out. I went out one night and the place was so busy because it was really small. I did have a good night though. I met two lovely girls (Sophie and Nikki) on the overnight bus from Sydney and although we weren't staying in the same hostel I met up with them. One of the days I hired and bicycle from the hostel - they were a really funny shape and old school style - and rode into town with couple of people. Everyone I had spoken to before I went to Byron and everyone I have spoken to since absolutely loves it there and stays for ages but personally I'm not fussed to go back. It was nice but it's small and limited things to do in my opinion.
Second passing
through stop was Surfer's Paradise on the Gold Coast. It felt really strange as I had been on a bus for 1hour 30mins but passed over the border into the state of Queensland which meant the time went back an hour - felt weird! Again I met Sophie and Nikki in the hostel which was cool because we stayed in the same room. The hostel had a pool so we kind of felt like we were on a proper holiday. We went out two nights out of three and the nightlife there was really good! Had so much fun! In the day times I chilled by the pool and walked into town and towards the beach to check out the area. The town was nice - a little more built up than Byron which was why I preferred it and the beach looked amazing, going on for miles and miles. Unfortunately though it was shut as the tyde was too high and was too dangerous for people to go right onto the beach.
Next stop was Brisbane where I met Sophie and Nikki again and chilled with them for a night. There's a bit of a standing joke now
that I'm following them up the coast! I also met a whole group of about 8 people that I met a week previously further down the coast - haha happens a fair bit! I spent 10days in Brisbane and really enjoyed it. The first weekend I stayed at Polly's house (I originally met her in Thailand) and it was such a good weekend. She lives with 4 other people, most of whom are at Uni. We went to a party together and I met more of her friends. I really liked it because I was actually surrounded by Australians and I only ever meet Europeans in hostels. The house where the party was, was huge and had live bands playing in the living room and people chilling in the garden and playing beer pong - was a fun party! During the week I explored as much of Brisbane as I could by walking around, having lunch, taking photos etc. I went to South Bank a few times because that's an area with outdoor pools and parks and a man-made beach. All situated along the river and you can see the whole City that's just across the bridge. In that same
area there were museums and galleries that were all free entry and really good. One of the days I went to Australia Zoo which was really amazing (although it rained) because I learned a lot about different wildlife and they teach you what to do if you're in certain areas of risk - like a croc creek or something. Another day I went up to Mount Coot-Tha where I could see the entire City of Brisbane and it was a beautiful clear day. A bit further down the mountains there were Botanic Gardens. They were the best gardens I have been to so far. Filled with unusual plants and quite a few animals were there just in their natural habitat. I stayed at Polly's the next weekend too before I was due to leave Brisbane and we had dinner from a Jamie Oliver cook book and wine out on their veranda. Was a great to end my time in Brisbane.
Considering I didn't hear many good things about Brisbane - I personally loved it. Probably because I fully explored the area as I had time to and a lot of people pass through it quickly- went to so many
parks, galleries, gardens, pools and I had friends to meet there.
Love you xx
