Townes River, this was a good crossing as it had a concrete causeway.

Bulldust, we ran into alot of this fine talcum powder like dust that disguises the depth of some of the holes it sits in, hard driving and can be 'costly'.

Burketown Pub burnt down, not Gregory. We were in there as you will see when I catch up with the blog entries (bit behind!) It would have been great to catch up with them but hey...we will do that when we get Grafton. Take care, we are getting closer...

Need a boat
you need to get onto the water to catch fish up here, very hard to get to the banks of rivers let alone be safe and not stuck in mud.

Birdlife!
I can see why there was so much birdlife, what a beautiful lagoon covered in lilies and a cracking photo.

Beware the saltie
If it is not a good place to swim because of crocs, was it really a safe idea to camp so close to the river? I trust Jackie was on a very short lead the entire time!

No problems
..however Jackie was on an extremely short and controlled lead.

He was hungry ..
. . and it has been a tad too hot for him over the past few months, he would have flown south if given a chance, but he is OK now.

Impressive crossing
Any bow waves with this one? It looks like the sides of the Troll and the Trakkie would have got a bit of a wash!

It wasn't too bad..
..in fact the smaller steeper entry crossings were often deeper and a bigger issue.

Well...
It looks like one went swimming and the other watched from the shallows! No crocs here then?

Mataranka to Lorella Srpings
How long did it take to drive from Mataranka to Lorella Springs?
26th July 2013

Hi Jeff
You could do it in a big day but I dont recommend as you would miss too much! We took a few days and explored a few spots along the way... this is one trip I would love to do again, Mataranka to Borroloola. You could spend a week at Lorella Springs, there are hundreds of kilometres of tracks to drive and explore. You can drive about a hundred Klms to the gulf from the camp at Lorella Springs (still on the property) and probably spend a week there just fishing if you wanted to. Fuel is expensive out there though, $2/Ltr at Lorella Springs when we were there, but they will only sell to you in an emergency (like about to run out!).
