Only a 4 hour stint in the car this time, arrived in Darwin in the dark and took a few minutes longer than usual to locate the apartments but we found it eventually and headed pretty swiftly to bed. Plenty to choose from!! beds enough for 11 people and only 3 of us there! Bit of an upgrade to the spacious cabin of Katherine and our own ensuite again!!
Our first morning we went down to the local market for breakfast and to have a look at some of the crafts and nik naks, nothing took our fancy so we headed back to chill by the pool and generally relax. Late that night our manager Jess and a new Dutch girl Emma arrived, not much time to get to know each other at 1:30am so we saved it for the morning on the way to work to set up.
A good week work-wise we managed to hit target so lots of bonuses for us! We had a fun week with some dvds, trips into town and birthday celebrations for Monique's 19th, ice cream cake and a BBQ followed by an ice cream war and several throwing-in-the-pool incidents. We had
a lovely evening mid-week when we went down to the bay to watch the sunset with some fresh fish and chips.
For those of you who aren't aware of how monumental this is..i have never in my life, despite the fact my parents have continuously tried to sell the benefits of a tasty fish meal, had fish from a fish and chip shop!!! it was suprisingly tasty actually!
There are some funny pictures of that evening-not all mine i have to admit but a nice collection for you all to see anyway.
The following week our other manager came up for a week and employed Matt as her personal trainer for the week as she was trying to lose weight for our big bosses upcoming wedding. So everyone went a little fitness fanatical training a couple of times a day and playing on the wii fit, swimming and other fun fitness frolics. Our swim in the 50m pool was put into jeapordy by the first storm in the whole 2 weeks we had been in Darwin-typical our luck! I also forgot how far a 50m pool is to swim after the tiny apartment pools we have been used

Jess, Matt and i to. More fun and games with on the shoulder wars and other such mature games.
We were also joined by a German couple who started off very quiet but we soon brought them out of their shell!! They had some interesting stories about their travels, seeing a fox eating kangaroo roadkill and discovering a Taipan snake had slithered into their car whilst they were sleeping, curled up inside the cooker and died (deadly dangerous snake people!! pretty close shave if you ask me and we saw the photographs!!!)
We took time on our day off to visit the museum and cultural centre which was pretty interesting, a mix of science, aboriginal art, animals and local history.Bit different to sitting around the apartment but we got a little frazzled waiting for the bus-trust it to be the only stop without a shelter! But first proper sunburn of the trip!!
Our Sunday day off started after a night on the town with the whole gang as a farewell to the Germans and Monique who were being flown to Brisbane for more training.A little worse for wear but we made it up and out for about 9am and drove to Lichfield
National Park for a day trip with Emma.
We drove to the park, Started off at the Magnetic Termite mounds- biggest termite mounds i have EVER seen!! must have been millions and millions of the little things inside. We then moved on to Buley rock holes for a refreshing dip. We bobbed around for a while but Emma got a bit spooked when a fairly large lizard hopped in to cool off and we left soon after that.
Our next stop was at the Florence falls, another swim but a much bigger and prettier waterfall where we spent a little longer, but it was much much busier which spoilt it a bit but we got some good pictures and Emma climbed the rocks and launched herself off!
We went to Wangi falls next, another really big waterfall beautiful scenery but a lot of it was closed off because of the wet season which means lots of crocs are out and about-probably not the best for swimming! We did see several rather large and freaky looking spiders on the way back to the car.
Our final stop was Tolmer falls, our favourite of the day for sure. Not another
person in sight and stunning views of the waterfall and the river canyon. Plus the walk down there a gorgeous view of the whole national park from a rocky outcrop at the top of the path!
Tiring day but well worth it for the views, swims and funny photographs!
One week left before we leave gotcha and move on to the road and to pastures new and then soon to a totally new country!!
