We woke to the gentle sounds of quarrying and packed up camp to head into Berri for coffees. We had a lovely relaxing time. Even though Mike had taken my boat apart the night before we hadn’t located the problem that was causing my boat to sink. Brooksie had been murmuring something about “checking the bungs” . While we were in Berri we workshopped it over again and decided that it might be worth trying the bungs. As it turned out the o ring on one of the bungs was shot. We picked up a couple of spare O-rings at SuperCheap and new bungs at the camping place. Brooksie bought an opulent new lilo and one of those old man straps you put around your neck so you don’t lose your glasses. We were having a great time until we realised that we had 20 mins to make the lock. We gunned it out of Berri and made the lock.
Travelling highlights included an emu swimming across the river and Wilko struggling with his bad back.
With these trips there is also a lot of fine tuning of the plan as not even google maps can show you everything. Before we
left Sydney I had called Leigh at Morgan caravan park to make sure he had fuel on the water. No issue just call me so I can make sure. We decided that we may as well stay the night in Morgan about 30ks further than expected but it would help us achieve Murray Mouth on Friday. We decided to re check and Emity, Leigh’s daughter, confirmed there were campsites and fuel. So we pushed everything a little harder and made Morgan. We cruised along the riverfront but couldn’t really see fuel. We beached the boats and headed up to have a chat to Leigh there was a lot of furiously calling but the upshot is that Leigh doesn’t have fuel. The good news is he has a ute and a couple of jerry cans. So we refuelled in no time. I’m very concerned with Wilko. While we were refuelling and unpacking the boat he was running around like a headless chook trying to buy ice for the beers (they were in the fridge anyway). We had burgers but were invaded by flying ants.
Mike, Wilko and I headed to the Terminus Hotel, while Adam and Brooksie played cribbage, which was
perfect as I had a special for the 4th at Kembla Grange. Sometimes on these trips you come to a town that makes you feel that you are missing out on the real Murray sights by not stopping off more. Morgan is not one of those. Wilko befriended Paul who had a habit of telling the same story over and over. Although I liked him because he kept telling me he could tell I was a good bloke over and over. After a couple of beers he invited his wife to come down. We did not have high hopes. A few minutes later a blonde in cutoff jean shorts and a midriff top came in and kissed Paul. So Paul is heavily tattooed, has a beard and hair to his waist.. Sarah who was a lovely lady had had 6 kids. Mike went home. Wilko and I had a few beers and smoked some weed with Paul and Sarah out the front of the pub.
