Oran Park Race Track, Narellan, Australia - January 25th - 6:52pm
I guess I got another good sleep last night as I was up at 6:50am when my alarm was set for 7am. I got up and showered, packed a lunch for today. Jean had some wonderful coffee waiting for me when I got up so I had a coffee and cereal and we were off.
The track was about 30minutes away, but it was a nice morning drive with the top down. The group from last night hadn’t gotten there yet so Jean took me to the tower where she’ll be working and showered me around the place. It was an old run down race track. The track is in good condition but the buildings around it are a little cob webbie. The races hadn’t started and I thought I’d touch base with Pam to see how she was doing so I called her and sure enough half way through our conversation the races started. It was so loud that I couldn’t hear a word she was saying and she was wondering what the heck I was doing at a race track. It’s usually her that watches Nascar and
is into all that. It was quiet entertaining.
When I had finished my conversation with Pam and wandered back down to “The Corporate Suite” the gang had arrived. Chris and Joe were trying to convince me to go to the track last night at dinner and they claimed that I’d be invited into “The Corporate Suite”. You could imagine by the talking marks (love you Lee) that it wasn’t so corporate. It was simply a trailer with a mini fridge and chairs. I hung out with them and unfortunately left 2 minutes too soon to go watch the races as they drove to the other side of the track where the view is much better. But I enjoyed my view never the less. I decided to take a seat on the grass and I soon realized that was a bad decision as I had to run to the washroom to get the ants out of my pants.
After the race I went back to “The Corporate Suite” where I ended up spending most of my day. It was a lot of fun, got to see the behind the scenes of races. I even got to sit in the
race car and pose of my picture. I had brought my book just in case I got bored but the guys made sure I was included in the event which was so nice. I really enjoyed myself and getting to meet everyone. I was a little slow and tired this morning that I had forgotten my hat so Chris and Joe were kind enough to lend me a MX5 racing hat so I didn’t get heat stroke. It was much needed as well. I tried to stay in the shade as much as I could but I still got a little sun, I don’t think I got burnt but I did get some sun.
I did make it to the other side of the track which was cool to see. Chris was giving Ken tips on how to cut the corners better and get ahead, I was trying to learn the lingo and follow along but when I actually got to see the corners he was talking about it all made sense. I got to see the ‘S’ curves and corner #2 tough lingo…I know.
After all the races were done we packed up and headed out. I
did have a little tear in my eye as I had a lot of fun with the guys today. It was neat to see how track meets ran. I enjoyed myself and was invited to the meet next weekend but I had to decline as I’ll be with my baby! WOOHOO
But I’m going to read and relax as I’m going to head into the city tomorrow for Australia Day. Pam it’s just like Canada Day but for Australia, goof!
Happy Oz Day Everyone! Make sure you wear green and gold.
8:18pm
I just realized that I’m a loser and it’s my first day with my camera. So the picture that I thought was taken of me in the race car was actually taken as a video. You’d think I’d known how to work my own camera by now! Tear.
