Our last leg of our month long vacation to Oceania ended in Sydney, Australia!!! When we arrived to Sydney, one of my best college friends Aimee was there to pick us up!! It was great seeing Aimee after almost 5+ years! Aimee and her husband John were recently relocated to Sydney from Kansas City. Although they only have been there for 4 months, both of them have aclimated themselves to Sydney life.
John and Aimee have a 3 bedroom apartment with amazing harbor views in the Balmain area of Sydney. The night we arrived Aimee made a delicious welcome home dinner using Australian ingredients such as prawns, capsacium, cheeses and wine. After an 11 day non-stop adventurous New Zealand gig, this hit the spot as we ate on their balcony. Later that evening, John arrived from work and joined us!
After all these years not seeing each other, it felt as if we were never apart. We had many laughs reminiscing about the old days. The guys even had the opportunity to meet Stephen, my love. After all these years looking for that special person and having lived the days when I was closeted to being out....They finally got
to know Stephen!! This was a moment I will always cherish and am so excited Stephen had the opportunity to meet another set of my loving friends!!
Over the next few days, Aimee had planned several activities for us to do. Our other college friends had just visited them earlier in the month, so Aimee had some past experiences and researched many new ideas for us. She was like a local who knew everything about Sydney...I'm just saying!!
Some of the main highlights included: Darling Harbor (or as I pronounce...Djarling), Paddy's Market, The Rocks, Sydney Opera House, Bondi Beach, Balmain, Rozelle, Chinatown, Sydney Harbor Bridge and downtown Sydney.
My favorites were: BONDI BEACH! I loved that we took the double decker red bus around town and stopped at Bondi for the afternoon. I found my chocolate mousee and enjoyed the sun and beach!
Dining with the Keatings was only the best and always included fine drinks. I could barely keep up! Aimee 's choice of restaurants were superb and she did a great job fitting my special dietary needs....making sure there was chocolate!! Our favorite meals included the Gazebo, The Exchange Hotel and the indian restaurant
at Darling Harbor.
Shopping in Sydney was also a trip at the QVB, The Strand, Balmain, and Paddy's Market. Pady's Market was the bomb!! It was great for souvenirs. I also cannot forget to mention all the chocolates, malteeser's for mom, tim tams for work that I bought at Woolies!!
As you will see in our pictures, Sydney was the perfect end to our Oceania journey. John and Aimee were the best hosts ever and we loved spending every minute with them. I know I will be expecting a bill, but these two made us feel like we were in a suite at The Mandarin or The Westin!! It was so sad to say good bye, but for now I will just say....see ya, until we meet again!!!
Special thank you to John & Aimee for mailing all our extra Jifts and boxes. We love you both and look forward to our next vacation...shall we do Tokyo or The Reef?
