It had been planned for a while, so we were not to be put off from our quest to climb Mount Kosiosko - Australia's highest mountain - by the torrential rain.

We met our fellow explorers early on Saturday morning, and told ourselves that the weather could only get better. It didn't, but having driven all that way, we decided we might as well as least take the chair lift from Thredbo and 'have a look'. The chair lift was wet and cold, and we decided we'd walk just to the look-out. And anyway - wasn't the rain easing a little? At the look out (from which we could see precisely nothing!), we decided to go 'just a little further'. To cut a long story short, we made it to the summit, on probably the worst day we've seen yet in Australia. By the time we got to the top (it's not a difficult climb - more a walk), it was hailing. We stopped for a (very quick) photo, and then turned back for the top of the valley and the chairlift as quickly as possible, spurred on by the knowledge that the last chairlift down was at 4pm. it rather fine (we hadn't intended to go to the top!), we got back to the chair lift with three minutes to spare! It was still raining.
