On Melbourne Cup Day, we decided to forego the local pub hanging out and betting in favour of exploring some local sights east of Bulahdelah. A highlight for me was the viewing of some interesting wildlife at Mungo Brush. Our friends had loaded to bicycles on to the back of there car and off we went, visiting inland lakes and the ocean at Seal Rocks. Saw a working lighthouse. We even took a 6-car ferry across the Myall River (10 minute ride).

Then Robin and Jeff rode bikes while Jane and I drove to meet them at Mungo Brush. Here we saw several fishers taking in their nets loaded with lake fish, some quite large. The interesting thing for us was the 100+ pelicans who were hanging about hoping for some discarded fish. It was so much fun to watch them up close swimming, taking off, and landing on the lake.
We also so a dingo who approached us, and eagles, seagulls, and 2 cookaburras up close. There are so many interesting things to see! The trees and flowers are also new to us. More later.
