The north coast of NSW is perfect to enjoy a great drive and spend a weekend where your worries just fly by you. After a hard week at work, this is exactly what I did. I picked up a rental car from Grafton (
this website lists all the car hire agencies in Grafton ) and decided to hit a few places on the way that would make my weekend perfect. •
Nimbin – This is located in Lismore area. Nimbin Rocks – Truth be told, I didn’t expect to find anything at Nimbin and almost gave it a miss. I’m glad I didn’t because Nimbin Rocks was worth it. The volcano (Mount Warning Tweed) erupted about 20 million years ago and the Rocks are just outside the area of the Caldera Wall. The Nimbin village is nearby and I found out that this site holds a cultural and historical significance to the Bundjalung tribe. <br style="color: font-family:

My camera is full of beautiful pictures of Mount Warning and Wollumbin. I am pretty sure I saw various exotic birds as well and on inquiry, I was told that various birdwatchers visit the place. I also got to see the Yellow Carabeen forest. •
Byron Bay –
Byron Bay is the main attraction behind my drive and I was glad to be here. Cape Byron Light – The construction of this lighthouse started back in 1899 and since then it has become a must-visit attraction for people visiting Byron Bay. I spent some time taking pictures of the lighthouse and had lunch at a nice restaurant nearby. Julian Rocks Reserve
– This is a natural reserve spread across 10,000 acres and is full of folklore. The marine species of this area is amazing and it is common to spot nudibranchs, wobbegong, grey nurse sharks and leopard sharks in the water. Since the day was almost up, I decided to go to a hotel in Byron Bay and had dinner there. Belongil Beach – Next morning, I decided to take out my beach wear and decided to hit Belongil Beach. The water temperature was actually cool and nice and I loved the sand. The beach is pretty huge and there is enough space to surf, swim, run and play beach games. The best thing, however, is the seclusion of this beach. There weren’t a lot of people around and it was amazingly peaceful. •
Lennox Head –
Lennox Head lies between Byron Bay and Ballina and is basically, a small village but to someone like me, the place was beautiful and easily, the best part of the entire trip. Dolphin and Whale Watching – I went to the headland and was able to spot a number of dolphins which made my day. Asking around, I found a walking track and discovered a couple more spots from where Dolphins can be seen. However, I didn’t spot any whales, which was a shame. The locals told me that September-October was the time when whales could be spotted in the area. I went to the Seven Mile Beach and engaged in some fishing for the sake of childhood nostalgia before going back to my hotel and ending a lovely weekend trip.
