Circular Quay When we were planning our trip Jack found it hard to grasp the idea of travelling around the country. He found it easier to understand a trip with a destination. For him, the destination was Sydney. So, as we crossed the Harbour Bridge for the first time on the train, Jack stood up with great excitement and yelled out “it’s the Sydney Harbour Opera House” with much excitement. He then gave me a hug and said, “This is the best day ever”. He continued to embrace the rest of our time in Sydney with the same amount of enthusiasm. He really is a city kid. We all had lots of fun being “tourists” in Sydney. We caught the train, bus, ferry and monorail. Our kids just love public transport. The weather was, of course, not that great when we arrived so we spent our first day at the Australian Museum. The rain had cleared a little in the afternoon so we enjoyed a walk to Circular Quay with the obligatory snaps of the harbour, bridge and opera house. The Japanese tourists took photos of Finn too! We took a drive up to Palm Beach and followed the coast down to Manly

At North Head and the North Head. After a short walk in the national park, we joined some friends we had first made in Broome at their house for dinner. Thanks Jane and Scott for a yummy meal. It was a great relaxing night but it was at this point that I realised how much I missed being in a house! The following day saw us on a ferry to Doyle’s for fish and chips at Watson’s Bay, followed by a walk to The Gap. We later braved the traffic of the Sydney Harbour tunnel to visit my cousins in Waverley. The boys really enjoyed the Maritime Museum, especially the Shark exhibit. We walked across the Pyrmont Bridge and to Myer to visit Santa. Finn had a great chat to Santa and gave him a big hug. Jack hid behind Paul! Does that mean he gets no pressies? We had a lovely morning and brunch at a great park in Pyrmont. We caught up with some friends from Perth, The Boekhorn’s. The kids had a blast. On our last day in Sydney we enjoyed the beautiful Christmas displays at David Jones. We were lucky enough to have more people to visit and had

On the ferry going to Watsons Bay a bbq that night with my Aunt and Uncle in Paddington. Mum and Peter had arrived from Perth for my cousins Allister’s wedding, so it was fantastic to enjoy a couple of drinks with them to.
We headed up to the Central Coast for the rest of the next week. The first 3 nights we spent at Avoca Beach. Paul hit the water for a couple of surfs. We all spent plenty of time in the great resort style pool, which was really warm. We managed to meet with Penny and Allister before their big day, for a drink at the bowling club. Ben arrived from Perth and spent a night at our camp before we packed up and headed into Terrigal. “Uncle Ben” became a fast favourite with the boys, who would not leave him alone. We had rented a house for the family to stay in over the wedding weekend. It was with much excitement that Kerrie and Paul, Mum and Peter and Chris and Julie, and their kids all arrived. There was so much catching up to do. The weather on the wedding day was lovely. It was a relief to wear a dress and a bit

At the Gap of makeup and I think PB and I looked pretty good considering we have been living in a camper for the last 8 months. Our kids behaved for the baby sitter while we were at the reception. Can’t say the same for PB and my brothers though. All had a great time. After a recovery brunch the next day everyone (except for Chris and Julie) departed for the airport. They spent the next couple of days with us. We had a picnic on the beach in Terrigal, while enjoying a Christmas carol concert. After a big nights sleep, we drove up to the Blue Mountains for a couple of nights in Katoomba. Jack and Finn really enjoyed having their cousins to play with. We took the trolley bus around the area and enjoyed the sights. Of course we went on the scenic railway. After enjoying a leisurely walk in the rain forest, we caught the Cable car back up. From here a short bus trip around to Echo Point for a view of the Three sisters and The Jamison Valley. We then took some time out for lunch at the Chocolate factory. The trolley bus took us through the main

Watsons Bay, enjoying fish and chips from Doyle's streets of Katoomba and then Leura. We hopped of at Gordon Falls and hiked to Leura Cascades. We only just made it to the pick up point to get on the trolley bus and back to camp. All feeling thoroughly exhausted we called it an early night after a yummy dinner. The next morning began the next leg of our journey. Chris and Julie and their kids headed back to Sydney. We started our drive west. We were heading home.
