1. What will I see along the Blue Mountains Walking Track? The Blue Mountains has a lot to offer. Throughout the walk, you will witness all that nature has to offer. You will traverse the Grand Canyon, Katoomba, Ruined Castle, Wentworth Falls, Valley of the Waters and more. However, most notable to the region is the abundance of Eucalyptus Trees. Bird enthusiasts will be eager to spot King Parrots, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos, Currawongs and Rosella Parrots.
2. What are the highlights of the walking track? Throughout your walk, you will use your binoculars and camera regularly! The highlights of the walking track include:
• the iconic Three Sisters rock formation;
• Wentworth Falls;
• spectacular lookouts over the woodlands and forest;
• cool gullies lined with ferns and plantation;
• vast ranges that will require powerful binoculars;
• pristine Jamison Valley;
• Echo Point; and
• Prince Henry Cliff Walk.
3. Is it difficult to walk along the track? The track has a moderate rating. All walking tracks prepared by Auswalk have been carefully designed to ensure every individual has an enjoyable experience. While the track has its ups and downs, the creeks, gorges and landslide areas are manageable. Auswalk recommend that you stay alert during the walk so that you not
only stay safe but do not miss out on any highlights!
4. How long does it take to complete the walk? Walks vary in length and time. Auswalk offer a 3 day group guided Blue Mountain Grande Traverse and 3 to 7 day self-guided walk options. Typically, you might cover between 6 and 15 km of track in a day, depending on the location along the trail. The track does have a rugged terrain which requires care and patience.
5. When is the best time to walk the Blue Mountains Walking Track? Anytime during the year is the best time to walk the Blue Mountains Walking Track. On average, the temperature around the mountains is cooler than the city. Remember to pack warmer clothing so that you enjoy your trek. No matter which time of year you visit the Blue Mountains, the iconic blue haze (which is believed to be caused by the atmosphere dispersing droplets of Eucalypt Oil interacting with dust particles and water vapour) is visible.
6. What clothing and footwear should I have for the walk? The Blue Mountains Walking Track is a rugged trail. You will encounter steep inclines and declines, shallow creeks and different elevations above sea level. You will need to wear clothing that is adaptable to different temperatures so that you remain cool and warm as required. Your footwear should fit you well and be impervious to water and other foreign elements.
7. How do I get to the Blue Mountains? The Blue Mountains is not located far from Sydney. If you are travelling with a guided group, you might have to make your way to a specific location nominated by the tour provider. If you wish to travel to the Blue Mountains directly, the main entrance is at Glenbrook / Lapstone. By car, you should head towards Paramatta, take the M4 motorway which starts in Strathfield and head into Lapstone.
8. What activities can I complete after the walk? After you have completed your walk, there are many activities available. You can, among others:
· visit Campbell Rhododendron Gardens in Blackheath;
· visit Featherdale Wildlife Park;
· explore the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre;
· meet the locals in Katoomba;
· board the Blue Mountains Explorer Bus;
· explore the Waradah Aboriginal Culture House;
· discover the natural formations in Jenolan Caves; and
· view the Blue Mountains from above in Scenic World.
9. Is the Blue Mountains Walking Track child friendly? Yes! The Blue Mountains Walking Track is open to both adults and children. While you must ensure your kids are appropriately equipped with comfortable clothing, footwear and walking gear, they will have a great experience discovering new areas.
