Well, to pick up where we left off....It is now 2:00 pm on Friday. We have just eaten lunch at Barducci's on vouchers compliments of Delta. We had to use both our lunch & dinner vouchers just to get lunch!
To catch you up I need to return to Thursday night. We arrived at JFK anticipating a minor lay over as we switched planes. We found out, as I anticipated that one of the pilots did have a maximum shift issue & therefore our 11 pm departure was going to be postponed until 11 am on Friday. Of course this caused so many connection isses that immediately the Delta agents were surrounded & the lines for help hours deep. We waited to hear more about our future travels only to receive very little communication & eventually from talking to other passengers confirmed we needed to wait in one of the very long lines to get: a $100 credit for future travel, hotel voucher at the Doubletree, vouchers for breakfast, lunch & dinner. They told us our luggage would remain on the new airplane. I would not leave the gate until we were issued our new tickets which took a very long
time. Since our tickets were originally from Atlanta to CDG new ones needed to be issued from JFK. We were rebooked, reseated and given boarding passes. (I don't know anyone else who got their tickets last night). Then we walked through baggage claim for the hotel shuttle only to see our non-secured basgs sprawled accross the floor in baggage claim (the ones that were supposed to be secured on the new plane!). We took our bags & joined a standing room only crowd waiting for the shuttle being harrassed by taxi drivers who wanted our fare. We arrived at the Doubletree after 2 am. Our room was fine and we slept until 8. We used our vouchers for the buffet breakfast but it didn't cover the full price & we had to pay $20.
Now, because we missed our train to Bordeaux we needed to re-route our trip. There was a French travel agent on our flight who recommended we cancel our plans for Bordeaux. I was able to contact our hotel but we had already passed the midnight deadline for cancellation because it was 4 am in France. However with a full explanation of our story, the hotel graciously

Our hosts - Frederic and Veronique cancelled our room. AutoEurope easily cancelled our reservation for our car. This was good news so now all we had to do was find a way from Paris to somewhere closer to Arles. With Maxine's computer help (both last night when I woke her up & this morning for all of her research) we decided to travel to Avignon. Multiple phone calls later with Maxine, my parents, Matthew & my travel agent we were able to revise our France Eurorail pass to get us to Avignon on Saturday morning. We have booked a B&B in town so it looks like our trip is back on track.
Hopefully this is the last entry from the US & you will next hear from us in Avignon. Wish us luck for our 3 pm depature today we arrive at CDG at 4:04 am & I know we will be exhausted. Hopefully we will not have any troubles getting through customs & using our new Eurorail e-ticket & we can catch a few zzz's on the high speed train.
