Days 10-12 - Yellowstone National Park

On day 10 Fourth of July! we drove through Jackson WY and then through the Grand Tetons. We entered Yellowstone NP and drove right to Old Faithful just in time to see it erupt. (From Cray, but never mind, he's dying to go try his new Yellowstone slingshot now Sunday evening as we are writing this....

So from Colleen, still on Friday, day 9, we then saw Fountain Paint Pot, Grand Prismatic Springs, other hot springs, other geysers, and some steam vents. This is absolutely amazing place. We had a great meal at Old Faithful Inn, and are staying at Mammoth Springs in a cabin. It has squirrels on the front decorations so we are calling it our Nutty Cabin. We have ground squirrels living right out front. We've also seen magpies and a black tipped jack rabbit just outside our cabin. Elks are just a block away. On the way to our cabin, we passed a herd of buffalo probably 200 head, including about 10 calves. It was fun watching them play with each other.

On Saturday, the 4th, we saw Mammoth Hot Springs. The boys made it to the top with the ranger. We took a stagecoach ride. We tried to see the rodeo nearby but it was sold out, so instead we came back and had cocktails on our Nutty Cabin porch. This trip seeing our country's greatest parks is a terrific way to celebrate Independence Day.

On Sunday (Day 11), we went rafting with Montana Whitewater Rafting Company in Gardiner, Montana, down the Yellowstone River. We were wearing wetsuits, so we were not as concerned with the cold water as we had been in the Colorado. We had a blast. I even purposely floated down the river for a few minutes.

Our delay in posting for a few days is because Yellowstone does not offer wifi or cellular access. So we'll be offline until Tuesday night again.
