Casper - no wonder its cold with that snow up there
25th May, 2009 Casper, Wyoming

Headed off early as we were expecting thunderstorms, yes it was cold and got to 53F (11.5c). The rain managed to hold off most of the way, but we drove the last 50miles in sometimes heavy rain (yes we have learnt our lesson, we won't be bragging about the weather over here anymore). Got to Casper, rain stopped and we headed off for a look around, Casper is an oil town, although you wouldn't think it with the highest fuel prices to date (why is that, they pump it, process it and charge more for it than someone down the road who has to pay freight?). Went for a walk along the Platte River that evening, river is famous for its trout, Cut throat, Brown, Rainbow and more, they do a lot of drift fishing in small boats with oars, put them in at one end of the town and someone has to pick you up 25 miles down river. Anyway rain forecast for tuesday so we decided to push on.

Platte River, Casper - fishermans paradise I am told
- nice. Thermopolis was reccommended to us by a lady we met in Cheyenne so we decided to go and have a look for ourselves. We drove up HW26 and then onto HW20 at Shoshoni, great drive across plains with mountains on both sides (in the distance), then up through the Wind River Canyon (photos of that on thursday as we drive out). Thermopolis is a small town famous for the largest mineral spring in the world, guess what when we got there they have had a dry old time and the Hot spring was pretty small, Rotorua leaves it for dead, but they do have some pretty nice baths there, that are free as per a deal signed with the Shoshone Indians in 1899, we are going there for a swim tomorrow morning, Sam said she will put photos of me in my speedo's on here tomorrow for all you lucky girls (wait till you see the photo she took of me today without my head and all you are going to see is my foot). We went for a drive up to the Mineral Springs and there is a nice walk, which we took and then went up into the State park to observe Bison in their natural state (these are wild Bison), they are huge compared to the ones we saw on the Bison farm. Came back down into town and while walking around we came across three Spika deer that had wandered into someones house and were eating the plants in her garden, and tonight 4 more eating someones lawn, I tried to approach them (catch and eat) but they took off
