We decided to paddle on String Lake to where you portage over to Leigh Lake. Got a very early start and there very few people out on the lake even though it was a Sunday. Decided to go along the edge of the lake and were rewarded with a very large cinammon bear heading across the high meadow above the hiking trail around the lake. Watched him until he disappeared from view.

We also got to watch a mother merganser on her nest as we passed by, then nice osprey gliding along looking for fish for dinner. Got to the portage point and took a break. Went into the woods to relieve ourselves. The only reason this is mentioned is it was a very eerie feeling since this is an area that is known for bear sightings. Safely back in our boats and off again.

Watched a mother duck with her nine goslings moving along the shore. Nice day all around. As we were heading back, the shore and the lake were getting very crowded with people out enjoying their Sunday afternoon.
