Our last day in Toronto we took a tour of the Steam Whistle Pilsner Brewery. If you're in Toronto and you want a few free drinks, go here and just hang around - they pretty much just pass them out. We did take it though, heard about the great efforts they put into the drink, got to compare prefiltered to officially filtered, had a few more (me anyways, I kept finishing Lauren's). We met a film student and Frenchman, whose name- Romain- we could not pronounce. We walked through Downtown on Yonge St where we couldn't find what we wanted; Lauren didn't get any postcards, Romain didn't find a gift for his host, and there was a lack places to pick up a beer for me. After a small bite, we parted with Romain and stopped at our room where we discovered we were very tired, so we slept instead of going to the Cloud Cult concert.
Tuesday morning we headed out of Toronto. We crossed the Ambassador Bridge back into the states and drove through Detroit. Didn't see much there, many abandoned factories. We did have the good fortune of seeing a labor union in action picketing outside of an axel manufacturing plant. A strike felt fitting in Detroit (or "De-Twa" as they may say in Montreal). Anyways we didn't feel a need to stop there for anything. Chicago had a more attractive skyline. Didn't stop really, but went by a bit more slowly, and did enjoy some of their $3.75/gal gasoline (still cheaper than Canada). Beyond there we made our last push to arrive in Madison, WI by 10:30PM Central Time. I'd like to spend more time here, but it'll be just a halfday for now. Camping could begin tonight.
Everything is well. We are having a feeling of disconnectedness, in a good way. I mean that our space and time is it's own. We just are where we are - a week ago in Philadelphia seems like so long ago, and being in Alaska in 2 weeks seems like a distant future.

No new photos right now, but this website will be easier to add them so there should be more next time.

Did you notice how clean Toronto was? Coming from Philly that place looked like a movie set. Too bad you guys couldn't spend more time in Chicago, it is a nice town. Maybe on your next continental crossing! Keep writing so mom doesn't worry. : ) xo
