Alex and I rolled out of Seattle around 0930 and arrived at the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie Trail Head at 1160' elevation (16 miles--14 of them dirt road--off I-90 just east of North Bend). We planned a 4 mile hike in to Lipsy Lake, but once we came across the sign forking off to Lake Snoqualmie (at 6.6 miles in and 1850') we knew there was no turning back so headed up 1.5 miles to 2900' just short of the lake. We stopped there for a very fortuitous view of Mt. Garfield, to rest under a cedar's rain fly, and because trudging on the snow above 2800' was getting old. All in all, 16.2 miles was not bad for first hike of the season. Back at the car at 1920.
